Is almost impossible to use the Spark without the controller. So, I recommend you to purchase the controller for better range and better connection.

My controller came with the Drone bundle, the only way I have ever operated my drone. I’m enjoying Spark every time I fly.

No surprises there. Most of the people either buy the Controller combo or the RC combo.

There is no way to get good cinematic shots without the controller. If the DJI Spark did not even have a controller I would never buy it.

Exactly. I have purchased the Fly more combo, and never ever tried to fly the Spark with just the phone....
As a long time RC pilot I'm accustomed to using a remote controller anyways :-)

Early on in the Spark's lifecycle, DJI was really playing up the gesture control, so you only got a controller if you bought the Fly More combo.  Because of this, it was very possible to get a Spark without a controller.  

However, after a certain period, I think DJI probably got enough feedback that the gesture control was not quite up to the marketing hype and had a bunch of unhappy users that needed to spend more money to make their shiny new toy useful.  So they decided to start bundling the controller like they should have from the beginning.

I always use the controller.  I recommend everybody to get the controller because it lets you get more flight distance.

I always use it it's so much more easy than with a smartphone.

I have to much trouble trying to get my controller to hook up with my phone and the spark. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy 7 to do my flights.

I wish there was more places to find help around me.

What problem are you running into?

its better if you own an controller because  you have more control rather than controlling it on a phone plus you have better range

Virtual joysticks are so uncomfortable, so get the controller.

I'm surprised that that many people own the Spark controller, or people who don't own the Spark controller are likely considered novice owners who thus do not visit the DJI Forum too often to wage a vote?

Can't really imagine trying to fly the Spark without the controller.

I bought the controller after the fact and have not flown without it since.  

I cannot get the phone to connect to the Spark so the controller is required.
