Mavic Pro DAT files are not downloading as expected. My Assistant 2 version is up-to-date, of course. But all I get is a spinning gear on my iMac 2017 model. I have switched cords, and switched ports to no avail. Thanks for looking.

Same problem here, all i get is the spinning gear when trying to get the .dat files from the Mavic 2 Pro.
Tested with DJI Assistant 2 on a MAC (Catalina), no success.
Tested with DJI Assistant 2 on a PC (windows 8), no success.

Tested with the DJI GO 4 on iPhone, FlightRecords>MCDatFlightRecords, but the folder is empty.

Please help.

If I remember correctly, it is the Apple system protecting you. The Mac does not know what a .dat file is and won't let you download it for your own safety.
