Yes, this is 'just' sparks between the overhead wires and the pantograph.
Not 100% sure why they appear, but it is very common.
Most long distance trains are electric in Sweden, although they still have a lot of diesel lines also.

Ah ok, I've seen the arcing on mass transit. I dont believe I've seen a electric freight train with overhead power cables.

Not too common in the USA I believe.
Here in NL and in SE el is the way to go.
Some operators don't even have diesel engines anymore and rely on shunter companies for the last mile.

I've been in a railroad family most of my young life. My grandfather retired from the RR and my father worked the RR in Europe during WWII. My neighborhood when i was a kid was next to a RR yard/shop. So i guess it is bred in me lol

Monty - nice train video, liked the passenger train in early evening, and the one in the beginning where the train comes around a curve towards camera.  Thanks again for sharing

Must be related to my dad taking me to railway stations to watch impressively sounding diesel engines shunting there.
Plus him and his 2 brothers also loving trains
