hi bob - yeh sadly that is a thing. no matter where i go there is plastic and broken bottles around - so frustrating.
Until a few years ago they were farming oysters in the estuary but not any more :-(

Southern California ocean water is just like that when i lived there 2001-2004. Maybe they cleaned it up now but i never got in the water there. Too many people to keep up with it.

Usually takes me a little bit to familiarize myself with the area and potential obstacles before i feel comfortable.
The ray came past as i launched so yes i was a bit nervous because i had not yet had chance to access my safety parameters.
also with altitude i take a while to test that my gps and vps readings appear constantly correct before i am comfortable being low -

thanks - yes it was good luck - he swam past  close to me just as was launching.
I am living here almost 20 years and i did not know that there were stingrays in the lagoon -

Very cool sighting and capture. What lagoon are you talking about? Knysna, Swartvlei?
Pollution is very very scary at the moment in South Africa. Our dams look like sewerage holding facilities around Gauteng, fish die in  droves. All that beautiful Yellowfish in the Vaal river is so sick and scabby and full of sores.
Pity. We had a wonderful and beautiful country.

our municipality has new bins on poles along the cycle and road running route and none....not a single one..at any of the 3 'hang out 'places people were enjoying.
They also have some other big marketing dustbins positioned slightly off centre of the pavements - which defies common sense and is in contravention of the signage bylaws - crazy world !!

Bins or no bins, most of the rubbish gets dumped on the ground, right next to the bin. Everywhere we drive, were we use to stop and stretch our legs, you find bags and bottles and glass, and papers.
Chicken bones............yeah, lots and lots of chicken bones.
It looks like people are throwing confetti at the stop and go,s, bags and cups and papers and lots of beer bottles flying out of car windows...........sad, sad state of affairs. Wonder if this is a global problem, or mostly here in our country?
