Hi, I am new to the whole photography/videography world.

Are ND/PL filters required for videos too? Or do they only apply for photos?

In video, ND filter is used to reduce the shutter speed to create natural motion blur similar to human eyes. Most movies use 180 shutter speed rule which is to set shutter speed to double of frame rate. If 30p to 1/60 so on... So if you want cinematic look then worth to check it out.

However it is a creative choice and you can choose how much motion blur you want.

I shoot this video with 180 shutter speed rule.

Also this is a video I shoot in full auto mode so shutter speed is much higher and with less motion blur.

If necessary, it works but also without ND filter.
On my last trip Dubai, Singapore, New Zealand ... I had no ND filters. Almost all shots I have created in automatic mode.
Certainly there are better settings in Pro mode.
