Thanks for the advice and I have to admit that I have newer turned histogram on.
The same is with editing photos, I simply avoid it.
Any good readings which you can advice about this ?
If you turn on the histogram, you can see how high your brights are going and raise them up manually to a little under white clip, brightening the entire image without blowing out the whites. This is normal in auto expo mode because the light meter is always trying to adjust to neutral gray average. When you have a bright object in the image, such as the sun, and lots of other white stuff, it tries to bring it down making things grey instead of nice bright white. Of course, over correction will clip the details out of the bright parts, so you stay just below that. The histogram is a great tool, and can save you from missing some very nice shots. It does take a bit longer to evaluate what you are seeing, but with practice, it will only take you a couple of seconds to see what is needed and make the change. |
