How can I get around this? I received waiver from FAA to fly within Langley Air Force Base in Hampton Virginia, as long as I keep it under 200 feet AGL. So I set my max altitude, I’m about 2.5 miles from Langley, and DJI won’t launch. I couldn’t even apply for DJI authorization like I sometimes do. I got an error -1009.

What gives?

Have you googled error 1009?  Sounds like an iPhone problem.

Another possibility is DJI considers your P4A to be in a restricted zone and isn't going to give you authorization regardless.  OTOH if you had another AC such as a P3A you'd be fine.  See this map and toggle between the different ACs to see what I mean.

I'll email you today DJI Stephen, and I'll attached my FAA waiver as well.

And thank you for your feedback as well Mark, but those maps are not FAA accurate at all. The FAA should be governing how and when one can fly in a Class D airspace, or any airspace for that matter, and not DJI's software. The Class D airspace around Langley Air Force Base extends 5 miles out from center, which means "no flights permitted" without FAA authorization. If DJI wants to implement a level of flight safety, DJI should comply with FAA regulations and prevent all flights within that 5 mile radius and not just 1-2 miles out.  DJI should update their flight maps to match what's shown on the FAA's flight map at https://faa.maps.arcgis.com or airmap.com.  Doing that would provide the properly level of flight safety

I'll post a follow up for anyone looking for the answer to this, when one has an FAA waiver to fly in Class D airspace.

You need to click the boxes below the map regarding Warning Zone and Enhanced Warning Zone.  If you do that, you will see the warning zone stretches out five miles from center of Langley.

I can't say for sure, but it looks like you had an internet disconnection (error 1009)- which usually wouldn't matter for a normal flight.  But that would explain why you couldn't "apply for a DJI authorization."  Besides, it's a bit of a process - not something you'd do in the field.  Have you tried applying from your desk/lap top in advance of your flight?

As I said before, it's possible DJI will not authorize you regardless of what FAA says you can do.  We've seen it before.  If so, you'd have to use your imagination to get the job done.

Good luck

Hey Mark, I had no idea about the unlocking process at all, and now it all makes sense. Ironically, I just received a booking from a different Realtor with a property located in a no-fly zone.  Thanks for the info!

On a side note, I sure wish DJI would change their blue lettering, buttons, etc to bright yellow or white as I can barely see those check boxes and words when in my office, let along in the field with bright sun!

Thanks again!
