Using MCC Multi, I cannot create a Stills Image via the RoninS.
I think this is related to the issue:
Half-Press RoninS shutter button to 'force focus' doesnt' work.

Full-Press RoninS shutter button puts camera into 'Record Video' mode, even though camera is in Stills Mode.
Because of this inability to take a stills image, the following 'Create Modules' in the iPhone App are adversely affected / unuseable:
  • - Capture
  • - Panorama
  • - Timelapse
  • - Motionlapse
  • - Camera.

This only happens on my A7iii (latest firmware 3.0, but also prior), and not on my A6300, using the same cable.
So I guess this is A7iii specific. This happens with camera in stills or video modes.
This happens with all different USB control modes.

Latest FW 1.8.0.70

Maybe read the release notes?
"

I am using the original edition MMC cable that came out for beta testing. not sure if the 'late' MMC-'C' cable is the gold that shines since you cannot use a HDMI monitor and other functions as I understand?
@Chris_E , are you saying you don't have those problems? Which 'Multi-USB' cable type exactly are you referring to?

Taking photos with the MCC Multi cable (I bought it separately) works fine (latest firmware Ronin S and camera (Sony A7III))

so, you're saying, with YOUR MMC Multi cable (the straight one) you CAN take stills and force AF through half-press the shutter button? Even though earlier on in the thread, you suggested to read the release notes?
What FW is your A7iii?
on the cable it says 'Multi' and not 'Mini'?
What's your camera USB mode?
Are you using the zoom wheel also ?

Don't get confused with the different cables ;)
Let's make it simple:
There is a cable that DJI ships with the Ronin-S. This cable only works with the latest firmware update for the Ronin S. With this cable you can:
- Start/Stop recording of video
- Half press shutter to focus
- Use the focus wheel
- You CANNOT take pictures, therefore not timelaps mode (DJI's fault)
- Side note: Also disables face detection for video (Sony's fault, because of PC remote mode)

The other cable is the one, you have to purchase separately, the link I posted earlier. With this cable you can:
- Start/Stop recording video
- Take pictures
- Half press to focus
- NO focus wheel

Firmware on Ronin-S: latest
Firmware on Sony A7 III: 3.00
USB mode: PC remote

Hope that helps,
Chris

I am trying not to confuse these cables, so let's try to put some names to them and identify properly:

Current info shows the RoninS 'standard' package to be shipped with
- Multi Camera Control Cable (type C)
- Multi Camera Control Cable (type B)
whereas the MCC 'Multi' needs to be purchased separately.
My (early version) RoninS never came with an MCC cable, only IR.
I got one MCC-Multi as part of the beta testing program.

My MCC-Multi works fine (for stills and half-press-focus) with my A6300, but not my A7iii. As I said earlier

Not saying it's not working for you, maybe it is, but I need to know why mine doesn't work as it should, and what can be done about it, so I can move on with my A7iii.
Who's not to say that there's different versions of the very MCC-Multi? Who knows I cannot see article codes for it etc..
If I send this cable back to DJI, I'm not sure if I will get a replacement that will work, or in a timeframe that is acceptable.

Getting a new cable is your only option. The correct cable definitely works as expected with the Sony A7 III.
