Out there capturing the last parts of the winter when the weather finally allowed again.

I saw this ferry/ice breaker that I wanted to get some footage/phots of (2.50 in the clip).
When I got to close the MP started to complain about ATTI mode and Compass Error, at the moment I was so happy that
I have flown the Phantom 3 before.

Landed safely but with a littled raised blod pressure.

It does save your bacon in split second situations like this. Many would have lost the drone.

it sure does, somehow you get so "relaxed" flying the mavic compared to the phantoms.

It's nice with a wake up call from time to time though

I recall MY MPP going into a RTH procedure and ascended straight up at fast speed - I quickly pressed the X button on my RC, looked up and it was literally a foot away from an over hanging branch. One-second later and it would have been a bad day! These things happen but knowing how to instinctively react to a situation can be the difference between a perfect drone and picking up the pieces... pleased to say that RTH within 20m of the home point doesn’t cause the M2P to ascend these days

wow, well practice makes perfect.

That is good, is there still the possibillity to make it "hover"?  I like that feature when in the forest.

It was a low battery RTH and I think the ability to set hover and land is only in a failsafe situ i.e signal loss so with it being within 5m the new procedure would have just made it land if it happened again with the new drone. It's good to see DJI making these unadvertised improvements to the tech.

Nice. I wonder if being so far north (closer to the pole) made the Mavic more susceptible to magnetic interference?

Looked like when you flew over bow of ship, drone had trouble.
Any idea how close you got to metal tower on bow of Ice Breaker?

Lots of radio antennas.  Two radar antenna beams didn't appear to be active.
Wondering if any of radio equipment on ship could have caused problems with drone's internals?

I was flying away from it just to be on the safe side but it seems like it did work, the ship was PowerCD down but i cant say if some radio equipment was on or not any Way learned My lesson so Will not try again

Regardless of cause, it is a good "Heads Up" for drone pilots to be prepared and cautious.

Seen several videos of people flying off of and back on to large steel ships without compass problems.  Biggest problem in one case was wind turbulence around moving ship.
Along with ships swaying at anchor, meaning a moving RTH point.  Thus not a place for auto / emergency RTH.

Thanks for reply.

Yes that was the intention ie be a little warning.

And yes i have seen this videos also and that made me even more surprised.

i would not say that it was overly windy, a little bit but, the major thing was all the alarms and massages in the app saying compass error and so forth.

Thank you the same for your input

Thank you very much ChrisJG.

Its quiet easy actually,

Hover above the subject, then use your (right, with My config at least) and move it northwest.
Control rotation by go more/less to west and the climb north.
Then you make a little speed change in post.

Practice and you Will master it very soon.
The fun part here is if you listen what is in the background at that time of the clip there is a Moon landning going on.

Happy and safe flying.
