If it is an action cam (which seems pretty likely) then that's pretty cool. I'm not really personally interested but I know a lot of people have been asking for something like this.  I do prefer my FLYING cameras though DJI

Oh-Oh, the card is going to take another DJI flogging, especially if it's an underwater drone. Maybe a whole line of them. The Liquid Inspire, Liquid Mavic, Air (Water be it's wet name) and Liquid Spark series. Now that would be cool... and I would be broke.

If it's going to be an tethered underwater flyable camera - can we get the terminology right please?


Its correct name should be a ROV or Remotely Operated Vehicle.


Non tethered - a subsea drone, fine.


Tethered - its an ROV.
I've been working with ROVs professionally  - both observation and workclass - for the last 13 years.

If it's none tethered - I can't see it going very deep at all due to signal transmission issues - and the reason why we still use tethers for power to the sub.  The sub is then able to send camera pictures to the surface.

If it's tethered - then we may - may get a subsea working depth of 50m or 150ft.


Depends on materials and sealing.

Consumer wise - I can't see it going much deeper.




Professional ROVs are capable of 6000m, 6Km or just shy of 4 miles.




If it is a consumer ROV - then I'm sure there will loads and loads of lost ROVs in the first weeks of ownership.


Tides, visibility, marine growth snagging the tether.  Compass, gyro, depth sensor, altitude sensor?


Flying aerial drones is a doddle compared to ROVs.

I'm sure we are all getting excited about the May 15 news that DJI will be actually be producing Phantom 4 drones again, not.

My guess is a submersible drone so you can fly it out to the water ditch/ land it and then flick a switch and it converts into and under water drone like James Bonds Lotus! Not sure about maintaining VLOS on it though!

Might just be a line of water proof cases for the current line up! It might also be a new camera to see beyond the grave to the "Other Side" It might well be a water proof Osmo pocket or similar but the I think it will be tricky for DJI to beat GoPro on that front as GoPro Hero 7 has software stabilisation which is pretty damn good and the Gimbal as it is exposed might not work as fluid under the water due to currents and pressures, It might just be DJI launching the case for the original Osmo Pocket.

I kinda hope it is a new camera gadget instead of a new beast of a drone like a Phantom 5 (mainly because I wont feel as compelled to get my wallet out and then spending the next week or so  explaining to the other half my logic! Still its my birthday the day after to it would obviously be a present to myself, that is if its another flying gizmo!)

My predictions are
It will probably be pretty cool
It will have lovers
It will have haters
There will probably be a short supply
A firmware update not long after launch

Still exciting though, Apple product launches have become a bit dull over the last few year with not much innovation DJI does keep pushing bar up each launch.

Actually, I doubt you would seriously need a gimbal underwater. The water makes movements much slower than in the air, and kind of stabilizes by itself. Think the difference between a vibrating, airborne drone and a camera in a relatively dense liquid. Nevertheless, as they use brushless motors, there are no exposed contacts: you could simply coat all the motor with a thin resin wash and that should just about solve the problem.

I am still expecting the Rover that is thought to have been designed about the same time as the Mavic 2. Remember that leaked picture of the Mavic 2 Pro? You could also see the Osmo pocket on the bottom left corner and some kind of rover with mecanum wheels (search that) on the top left one.

I am excited! My guess is it is a phantom 5 with improved camera, battery, obstacles avoidance and tons of new flight modes that will set it apart from the mavic pro 2. But I would also love to see a mavic air 2 or a spark 2.
