Questions of drone piloting etiquette rarely rise on the Forum, everyone of us consider themself as a responsible persons. But it is a topic that always worth to discuss or at least think about.  

Aside that storys about drones and accidents may happen, this seems to be just that: a story!
Falling out of the air, but motors and bird still on?
And just starting again, if placed on the gear?
Must be a very unknown kind of a drone.
Just saying, funny story.

I also think that it is a bit of imagination of an author, but it anyway rose a very important issue about private property and personal space.
