Hi all,

I went to see the air show at Korea Air Force base.
And I brought Osmo Pocket to film it.




I know it sounds crazy to bring a water canon to a fire fight.
Capturing an aerobatic would need camera body with fast auto focus and big telephoto lens.
But I just want to see how pocket would handle it.





Air Show was amazing to watch and really difficult to shoot.
Even my bare eyes can not follow the jets and doing it with camera is just wow...



My original idea was shooting with 4K and 2X crop in post.
But the day was bright and even with 60FPS 1/120, ND64, Normal color the camera still over exposed at best.
So when looking at the footage there was over exposure ISO noise and I had to remove the noise with filter at the cost of some detail.

But I guess the detail wasn't too bad at all considering how small the camera is.

Wow, really impressive. I would have never thought you'd be able to get footage like that with such a small device. Did you use AFC or AFS?

I used AFS the whole time and not even tried AFC. (But now I wonder how would it performed )
I try to set the infinite focus. (I figured if I switch to AFS mode it defaults to infinity but turns out it might not) I didn't touch focus adjust it.

Very well done, congratulations!  It's almost as though they gave you their flight plan in advance - you really nailed it.  Did you have a phone attached?  I think that must have been so.  What gimbal settings?

Surprising good considering that you used AFS. In my opinion, considering the fast movements, maybe the AFC was supposed to be a better choice.
How did you removed the noise (which software) and how did you created the X2 crop?
Was it shot in Taiwan?

Considering the obvious  limitations of the OP then I think you have done a very commendable job. Did you try to use ‘tracking’ at all or were the aircraft too fast to keep up?.

I liked the interior transport shot a lot as well as the pan around the gun. The recordings of the flights were also much better than I would have expected.

Glad you like it.
I attached phone right after finding out it is impossible to see tiny jets on tiny onboard screen.
Even on the phone screen, it was really small to see. iPad might be a better screen for the job.
Setting was simple gimbal follow mode with slow speed.

Hi DJDream,

It is shot at the air force base in Korea.

I cropped the footage in Premiere pro by enlarge the shot more than 200%.
So in the original shot, each jets were really tiny dots. So I figure pocket’s AFC would not find it the first place. (But I didn’t try it so cannot confirm this)

For noise reduction, I used Neat Video’s denoise filter version 5.  It is $130 for 4K capable version, so not recommend unless you will use it often. It also require a crazy powerful PC to run and will take a few hours to clean up a few minutes of footage.

I didn't tried using tracking mode cause they were too fast and start way too small for tracking recognize it.

Nice captures.
You do miss a real optical zoom in these situations.

You have told the story really well. The one I would have told would have used a 500mm lens, and got close ups, missing the beauty of the aircrafts flighr.

I'm shooting a fireworks display this evening. I live in an apartment building where the fireworks put on by the city is only about 750m away and the explosions happen at the level of the rooftop (17 floors).
In Canada it's Victoria Day, the day of the year where we celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday. Aside from fireworks and everyone gets tomorrow off, except all the stores will be open - it's just a name for a holiday.

What a perfect opportunity! and I forgot it's Victoria day.
Remember seeing 'celebration of light' fireworks festival in Vancouver.

Wow not what I expected. Some great shots taken and it’s good to see what the pocket can really do. Thanks for sharing the clip and shots and inspiring others to  try something new

How do you set infinite focus?

If you change the focus mode from AFC to AFS.
It's initial set up if close to a infinity focus then I do not touch the focus point while shooting.
