How hard can it be?
When i have the opportunity to "make" an product, i would check "what are the users needs".

like "good battery" or "easy to handle menus"... or "some inputs/outputs like video or audio".

and i would buy a 50 euro adapter for external mic - even i know that was some 20cent plastic.

They have an event on the 13th (I think), maybe it'll be announced then?

I'm absolutely desperate for the mic adaptor to be released for a bunch of videos I'm filming (actually part-way through doing so already, managing to fluff-it with a single lavalier mic!) - to the point that I refresh the DJI Store page for Osmo Action accessories EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I got so excited today when I saw an item had been added... it was a floating handle.

I also need the battery/charging kit, but am refusing to buy that until the mic adaptor comes out. Hopefully not much long now.... right?

what is there to understand? you released a product to compete with a GoPro that can even use a simple mic adapter, nor, is there any plans in the works.

Well to be fair the GoPro has to have a ridiculously priced and ridiculously sized adapter in order to be used with an external mic as well, but at least the one for the GoPro is available. So many of us are begging for this - where the he** is it???

It starts to feel like we have been sold on a lie with the promised *soon* microphone input still not available months after release.
The worst thing is chances are a firmware update could allow 3rd party adapters to work immediately.
I for one would not have bought this camera if the microphone input was not promised to be soon available.

I agree.. it been a while and no update on the microphone adapter.

I totally agree as well.
It's probably time now for DJI to take their finger out and release the audio adapter. As it looks like GoPro are near ready to launching the HERO8, and if all the leaked photos are to be believed, the GP8 looks to have a substantial microphone and probably a mic input built into what looks like an extra surrounding for the camera.

f+ck dji and their promises! bought that piece of sh+t at release date and it's stupidly laying around uselessly since then because lacking audio. never dji products again, that's for sure!

Y4k+ adapter a no go.

Hope it is a right Angle adapter.

Pop open the OA and solder  some leads, make your own for a hell lot less.

that said Happy with the sound if asked.

DJI could younplease give us a release date of this adapter because from our client point of view you are just messing with ourselves : it's been a while the camera is out with the mromise of the adapter, then you release the Ronin SC and even the Osmo Mobile, but you did not have time juste to release an adapter ?!
It's a shame because the Action would be the perfect vlogging cam thanks to it's awesome RockSteady stabilization. But for now we are more and more clients to think you lied to us and the Action cannot actually support external microphone. If so tell us already, you will loose tons of customers if you just let sink this thing. We can forgive a half year lie, but not much more...

Perhaps someone needs to check the chinese version of this forum because I'm sure there is more information there.

There are still no audio adapters, so I sold the Osmo Action and bought a GoPro Hero 7. The adapter is big and expensive, but there are at least one! Thank you DJI !!

Well to be fair it have taken goppro until now, to come up with that i will admit look to finally be a action camera with a full feature set.

That said that hot shoe / expansion port, well for ACTION i would not put too much trust in things staying together, but for the camera suicidal ( vloggers ) that just need to hang some stuff on their camera it will probably be very fine.
And that would also work for what most of us do with our action cameras, which are not really action.

BUT ! what see in those gopro 8 shots, i think it is some form of skeleton case,,,, which might also work fine, but i don't think it is a AIO camera we are seeing in those pictures.
The actual gopro 8 camera will probably look much like the gopro 7

I think it's a stupid design. It sticks so far out ouf the camera! From the german youtube i get the feeling that it could snap off when you pull the cable down.
On the GoPro you get a connector on a cable with a connecting box witch could be mounted under the camera. A little bigger but much better design.
The DJI mic interface should be like a t-shape     -|     so the cable could be plugged in from the bottom.

Something else:
Why can i not use the mic-interface at the same time with a charging cable?
The adapter should have a usb-c passthroug so you can charge the camera, make movies & use the mic-adapter at the same time.

I'm still not convinced about this video.  There does not appear to be any proof that the mic is indeed recording from this device.  Also the adapter will obviously have a charging port too.  I'm sure the actual product will mimic the gopro version.

There's been loads of youtube videos testing 3rd party mic adapters and so far none have actually worked,  its like the firmware does not have the microphone code yet.

You can buy a range of USB C to 3.5mm adapters which fit reasonably neatly - but so far they just can't work.
Ideally we just want firmware modification so one of those inexpensive adapter cables will plug in.
You have to suspect the reason for delay is so they can sting us for some specialised clumsy thing which will only work on this one camera, and alternative ways to connect a mic are somehow blocked.

The delay is getting suspicious.  I wonder if there's some design flaw and it just won't work?  

A normal helpful company would keep you informed on progress, and we could understand if tests had revealed some issues they wanted to resolve or even redesign totally.
But there is no response, apart from advice to check the support page regularly - as if that somehow helped!

Im totally p*ssed, to be honest...
I sold my 3 actions and buyed gopros instead. The quality is really similar and - yes, the adapters are expensive BUT - i CAN use my wireless lavalier mics now if i want.

It hasn't shipped to anyone yet.  When I purchased mine the other day, it said 10-15 days.  I will post a video when I get mine.

Well i've hit the pay now button. Hope this works with 3.5 TRS mics.
Got some great sounding footage on my motorbike with a hero 2 and external mic.
Hero 4  i could not replicate it at all.  And the footage was too bouncy.
The Osmo Action onboard footage is excellent and steady, even at 155 mph . But the sound is crap.  lol

They gave me the same ship time for the metal case I ordered and it shipped already so we'll see when the audio adapter ships.

Mine shipped today, Oct 2nd delivery.

Ugh I just posted a long post without activating my account by email. The short version is that no the official 3rd party adaptor that arrived today doesn't change the audio at all. I used the same Rhode Wireless Go I use with the Osmo Pocket. No notification on plugging it in either like on the Pocket. Guess we're waiting on a firmware update? Who knows

Works just fine for me with a TRS Sony ECM-CS3.  The indicator icon appears with 3 segments to show that the mic is picking up audio.  I made a short video that I'm probably gonna try to upload soon to show that it works with a mic rub/tap test on my helmet setup.
