In the gesture mode there are seperate gestures for taking a photo and starting a video along with other useful gestures. You need to look them up in the manual and practice them to get them to work. Also there are a lot of youtube videos on the subject.

Intelligent flight modes (dronie, rocket, etc.) do automatically start video recording and then auto stop it when complete.
