Close call. They first narrowly miss from the front, and then from behind. You can see my Zoom automatically alter its course slightly when they approach the second time.


This is in Australia. The birds are Corellas. As you can see in the article linked below, they're pretty mischievous and very noisy!

Birds always make me feel uneasy when flying even though they are  probably not the cause of many drone losses (and they seem very adept in avoiding in-flight obstacles, including each other so a straight flying drone should not pose a big problem)

The natural reaction is to loose altitude though I have found they seem to get closer even. Short of landing going up may be a good idea in some instances but its counter intuitive.

Unless they are migrating most birds seem to fly fairly low usually.

Birds of prey usually attack from above, maybe that's the reason?

As you can gather, I'm no David Attenborough.

I'm pretty sure they do this on purpose. I've seen them chase radio controlled planes and kids kites as well. They'll swoop at them, or circle around and fly past erratically. It must be fun for them I guess. Not so much for me watching this all unfold on the video feed though...

It was a quick flight home and land after this!
