I understand MOV and MPEG4 are different, however, if you editing clips in the DJI app on an apple device, do you need to film in MOV..?

I believe it just gives the option to which file type a person wants to have. It's a personal choice, many devices and software like MP4 but MOV is what I'm set at and still able to upload to ShyPixel just fine. Hope this helps, Thanks for sharing.
