Yet more regulations are going to hit us from teh EU, https://www.easa.europa.eu/easa-and-you/civil-drones-rpas. Whether we are in our out, we will be affected. On the one hand a qualification in one country will be accepted in another, on the other all drones, no matter what weight, will need to be registered if they carry a "sensor". Of course those who want to use their craft for nefarious means will not be registering, so once again the good guys lose out.

Hi there,

*update*

the new regulations have been passed and are online here:

  • Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/945 of 12 March 2019 on unmanned aircraft systems and on third-country operators of unmanned aircraft systems
  • ->eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_del/2019/945/oj
  • Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 of 24 May 2019 on the  rules and procedures for the operation of unmanned aircraft
  • ->eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_impl/2019/947/oj

I'm looking forward to a statement from DJI which of their drones classifies for what category (C0-C4).

SORRY for the convoluted style of adding the URLs but the forum software seems to be broken. It does not allow me to add links in the usual style (so you just have to click on it).

Thanks embayweather and Dan; the links are interesting. It looks like there will be some time before all of this is applied, but it appears that it will be much more restrictive than the current situation.

Another interesting read is the following official statement from a DJI representative that I found: https://enterprise.dji.com/news/detail/12-questions-on-the-new-european-drone-regulations

The Q&A styled comments also include information about the transition period.

It basically says that pilots can apply for a permit/exemption until July 2020, in order to continue to operate under the current national regulations until July 2022. After that date, the new EU regulations are in full effect.

PS: sorry for the double posting, the 2 minute editing time window is just way too short.
