Why does the smart controler only take 9 pictures in a panorama. On the ipad it takes 20 pictures or so? How can i change this?

It depends on what panorama you have choosen:
- horizontal: 9 pictures
- 180°:  21 pictures
- sphere: 34 pictures

once you have choosen pano, you have to select one of those 3. It is no different from the app on iphone / android or smart controller

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we do apologize for the inconvenience. As per our co-pilot John on post #2, the number of photos will depend on what mode of the panorama you are currently using. You may refer to the details below.
Vertical (3x1): The camera will take a vertical panorama after taking three photos in the vertical direction. W: 2048×H:3712
Horizontal (3X3): The camera stitches nine photos with different angles in the horizontal and vertical directions to form a panorama. W: 4096×H:2688
180° Panorama (3x7): The drone will automatically rotate and take a total of 21 photos. W: 6144×H:2048
Sphere (3×8+1): The drone will automatically rotate and take a total of 25 photos to form a panorama. W:8192×H:4096

Using the smart controller and a Mini 2  it creates 26 photos to form a sphere.  I can view the stitched result on the Smart Controller but I cannot download the stitched image like I can using my phone.  WHy is that?
