I think it's a good subject to entertain, whether it opens a Pandora's box is yet to be seen...

If anything, the ability to get approval from the FAA to fly in controlled airspace is likely to make things safer. I doubt very much that LAANC would be created, promoted, and extended to recreational operators by the FAA if they thought it would increase the risk to manned aircraft. Plus, even with this system in place, the regulations are still more restrictive than they were before last year's Reauthorization Act.

Makes sense but doesn’t go far enough, what would be wrong with having a 50 foot height limit, anywhere, so that people who live in NFZ  can at least buzz around their own backyard or realtors can take photos of houses for sale?

It is a good step in the right direction, as it establishes an organized, real time air control management system, that should at least close the gap on local authorities fumbling around and making up rules as they go.
