During this Summer vacation I had the opportunity to visit Ponte de Lima a small town in the North of Portugal to which I had not been in many years.

For the creation of this video I filmed with my trustworthy #DJIMavicAir in 4K@30fps with the ND32/PL filter from Neewer, edited and colorgraded using #AdobePremierePro , which I have grown found of specially since I learned how to use PROXIES to edit and process 4K videos.

How to Use Proxies to Edit Faster in Adobe Premiere?

Are you using a laptop to edit videos with a low end graphic card (GPU)? Then you are probably experiencing a very slow performance (lag) while editing, previewing and specially while rendering video.

With PROXIES you can accelerate your editing process of 4K videos in a way to further improve playback and overlay speed and here is how:


1. Creating Proxies
After importing your footage to Premiere, select all the high resolution videos you want to create PROXIES for, right click on your mouse and select "Create Proxies" option. This will request you to choose the proxy resolution preset which I advise to always select the lowest one available.
The proxies will be created in a separated folder where your original videos are stored by default, but you can choose otherwise. This will open #AdobeMediaEncoder which will create lower resolution proxies of your videos.



2. Editing with Proxies
Add the proxy videos to your sequence in your project panel and from the Program Window make sure the "Toggle Proxy" button is on:

When active the button should be blue. This button switches the clip in the timeline to work with the proxy version of the clip, which allows you to edit with low resolution video instead of the full resolution video.


3. Rendering your final product
Before rendering your final video make sure to toggle the proxy botton off so that the Media Encoder uses the highest resolution videos for your final project.
