I've seen some work arounds to get HDMI to a laptop but the lag time was pretty bad. I remembered a device I used on my DSLR cameras to put the subject you're going to shoot onto a laptop. So, I tried it on the Mavic with Smart Controller and it worked really well and very little lag. Nope, it isn't free. But if you need something that can take 1080, 2.7 or 4k and display it on your laptop screen here is what I have. I had to put this together in a hurry because the wife already had plans soo it is what it is...BTW I have not tried it on a MAC yet.

Hey man, nice setup! I see this is an older post and was wondering if there have been any advancements whereas being able to use an iPad Pro as a secondary viewing screen with the Smart Controller is now an option.
