Although like most i'm worried about climate change, but lets hope that this particular protest is stopped before it gets started, this type of action will help no one and has the potential to cause great harm to the perception of our hobby with the public.

And typically they show a DJI product even though,  they couldn't use Mavics to protest here because of the NFZ.

"they couldn't use Mavics to protest here because of the NFZ."

And if it were in ATTI mode due to loss of GPS/GLONASS then it wouldn't know it was in an NFZ, so it would be possible to use just about any multi-rotor if they wished.

This right here is a foolish way to go about a protest.  I do understand the passion behind it, though causing a safety hazard to aircraft is not the way to go.  Not to mention the incredible amount of bad press that drones are going to receive from this.

At least Sky News are making it clear they are flying small toy drones.  https://news.sky.com/story/sky-v ... d-backfire-11806006

This type of protesting is counterproductive, even toy drones (whatever they are planning to use) could cause harm (or be blamed for inadvertent harm).  There are better ways to protest.

Its a curious article,  they plan on flying at head height but as the Heathrow policy is complete stop for any drone it will have an impact, and they all expect to be arrested for what they are doing too.  As the article is entitled,  it will all end in tears.

It is crazy, but the optics are potentially damaging for those legitimately flying drones.

It certainly is especially when the BBC use images like this in their news stories.

That is just plain sloppy reporting.  Completely ignores the in-built restrictions implemented by DJI.

I think most people would probably describe a Spark, Mavic or Phantom as a 'toy' drone.

Skys definition gives us no idea at all as to size or weight of aircraft, if any, the protest group intend to use.

I wonder if any will get arrested and charged whilst hovering their machines at head height in their back garden just within 2.5 nautical miles (4.63km) from Heathrow airport (A criminal offence as of 13th March 2019, assuming no application made to CAA). The disruption would seem to be them saying "look I'm breaking the law, come and get me. In the meantime stop all flights".

It's likely their actions will cause even more pollution through diverted and extra flights laid on to accommodate their protest.

If they want to protest they should take it to parliament; on second thoughts scrub that, it's closed.

You make a very good point about the increased pollution caused by the diversions.
