Ok S1 pilots!

Even though it will be mostly be just a few rounds of Free for All, we actually do have some autonomous programs to mess with, even at this early stage.

So, given that I have already talked to a few of you locals, it is clear that Sundays is the preferred day.

So the current choices are:

Sunday Oct. 6

Sunday Oct. 13

Sunday Oct. 20

I rather not delay beyond that, so those are the choices, and my fave is the 6th - let's roll!

I expect a few improvements this time - I'll request the large conference room in Building E be cleared of all those chairs, and advise Security of our Event.

They can check in and escort stragglers to the conference room "Marco Polo".

It pains me to leave out our LA crewman, but this Sunday Oct. 6th it is!

I sent email to DevRelMedia, I'm hoping they can come to do a nice photo blog.

I encourage all S1 pilots to experiment with a Screen Recorder app so we can record some of the enhanced in-game video.

Currently we have at least 6 and up to 9 possible S1 units confirmed.

No problem.  There will be other opportunities.

Ok, I put in a request to Facilities to clear out the many chairs in the Marco Polo conference room for us, so it should be clear for this Sunday.

I hope!

No final confirmation from DevRel yet - I'll ping them tomorrow...

Ack!  The core of our group has bailed!

Well we still have 4 pilots and 6 bots, it will still be fun.

Check out the battlefield- huge and comfy!

Well we ended up with 3 pilots, leaving one S1 available for autonomous Sentry duty, and no media coverage!

I can only assume this means we need more advance notice for meetups!

All of us being programmers we talked a lot about that, and also ran few Free for All battles for fun.

Some takeaways:

The mobile router (TP-Link AC750) is fine!  The trick is to just give it a Master Reset, do nothing else, and have all S1 robots and devices connect to it, with the knowledge that there will be no internet connection.

In other words, use the guest wifi or your own mobile internet to download what you need to the App, then only connect to the mobile router for Battle Mode(s).

Once done, it was solid for 2 long battles with 3 bots.  So, I will stay with it for now.  We will certainly test it to the max on the next meetup.

Next, I finally got around to "Sight Adjustment" in the App, and I was sniping drop targets reliably at good range - out to about 5-6 meters-ish max.  Yeah it's kinda fun.

Having obstacles is FUN - running around them and out-guessing your opponent jink left jink right and pelting them - quite fun.

Having a Ramp is fun - but it was pretty easy to tip over a bot.  You get a warning, max tilt exceeded, and then all motors and gimbal turn off, to save your hardware from over-stressing.  But then you have to walk over and flip it back upright.

Durable S1's - again lots of thumping and bumping around and plenty of tipping over with no malfunctions or breakages.

Gel Bead Jamming - yes I finally got my first actual gel bead jam up - I just removed the magazine, kicked out some broken beads, re-loaded and continued.

Video - too much in the way of trying a 3rd party screen recorder - but I got some clips in my S1's SD cards.

Sentry performance - well it danced the gimbal around and flashed the LEDs real pretty but scored no hits.  Note - for future - Sentry gets extra armor and cover to prevent easy hits - it kept getting killed too easy.

With the help from Facilities to clear this vast conference room of chairs - this place is GREAT!  We can come back any time!  I already sent them a nice thank you note.

It looks like it was amazing and will only get better with more people playing. Sorry again for not being able to make it. I will be there next time.

And do share the videos you have.

I found the Sight Adjustment quite invaluable. There is not that much drop, but the camera may not be aligned with the blaster when it is built. I tested by just shooting a target on the wall until I got the camera + blaster converged.

LoL out of 12 minutes of uber boring video these few seconds of plinking at a drop target were the least unworthy to post

Thanks for the lessons learned. I'll definitely  roll them in to the first RoboMaster System One - Montreal tournament.

I bought two of those drop targets and intend to deploy them as part of the first Montreal tournament.

I'm thinking, all of a sudden, of providding a sight adjustment range for competitors at Montreal tournaments.
