In order to get a better joystick feeling, I extended the joystick by adding a short piece of plastic hose.
The hose has a bit smaller dia. than the joystick. Prior to mounting, the end of the hose is heated, which will make the hose more soft and flexible. After mounting and cooling, the hose sits fairly tight.

Only one (small) issue. It won't fit the bag with the hoses connected.
