Yep, perhaps.

But since the P4 , ALL consumer drones are in there.

Always hard to make a good separation between product ranges.
Just like with a lot of other tech companies.
So they have to make 'decisions' that will justify the more expensive range.
But in this case we will never know why
All I can tell is from my own developing experience that it is (way) more easy to start all over compared to making a whole new 'module' in existing code.

What I don't understand, is the range of the Mini.
Obviously, the drone companies will circumvent the government regulations to raise public demand and sale etc etc..
Weight should not be regulated..neither should camera.
Max range of 100m/300ft without license, insurance and/or registation.. would be so much easier.
Almost every authority will, in near future, try to close every door for leisure droning.

If Mini will be supported by Litchi and such, you can send this little bird on a really far-out 25 minute roundtrip...autonomously.
Flight time is super impressive, but range is mindblowing!
Drone regulations around the world change so quickly, even the Mini can be obsolete in 1-2 years.
And that's why I'm keeping my Spark.

I'll not giving up on my Spark, too.
But in case, one of it dies, or I can sell it for a reasonable price, I think a mini would be a nice replacement/back up

Also I assume the M-Mini has the new chip inside, to warn pilots from real air crafts approaching.
(I would be much more impressed if DJI could warn DJI pilots , that another DJI product / drone is in 100m radius flying around. Which, in my understanding, creates more safety. Real air crafts,  till now, I have always noticed early enough!)
And, in case I got that right, from 2022 on, some countries wanna forbid drones without the chip!
To waypoints, perhaps litchi won't, but others, free apps developer, perhaps, will get into the new app and reverse find out, what they can do with this bird.
I am pretty sure, we'll see some options, sooner or later!

Ok, I just read "from 2020 in all drones OVER 250g" is the DJI AirSense System included!
That can be another reason for a own app, perhaps?

The flight time (30 mins) is impressive.

eh, yes!

Alot to unpack, but in short the mavic mini is the sucessor to the spark, and is better in every way. It folds, records 2.7k, has longer flight time, and is lighter than the spark, which only records 1080 @ 30fps and weighs more. The only advantage the spark has i would see is that it has obstacle avoidance.

The weight can be an advantage in high winds. The M. Mini is still controlled by DJI in NFZ

true, the spark can do slightly better in wind.
