Have just completed the civil aviation authority registration test. Not too onerous.
Twenty multiple choice question (you can load a cheat sheet as well). 16 out 20 is the pass rate, and £9 GBP later I now have a flyer ID and operator ID.
This has to be done for UK drone operators (250g- 20000g) catagories by 31 November or it will be illegal to operate a drone in the UK

Here is the link https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual

Just to add there is also a free service for lost drones 'found dead in a ditch' once you have registered and the operator ID is on the drone.

Here is the link https://dronesreunited.uk/

Hope this helps

Just done mine! (That "snow" question!!)

Is there a consensus on the best place to mount the ID sticker?

It has to be in view when the drone has landed. I used a marker pen and wrote mine on the top (Mavic Air)

I have a "If Found Please Contact Me" sticker inside the battery compartment. I wonder if the OP number could go in there?

Not what I read. Anywhere on the drone, easily accessible without using a tool.

The point i raised was that it didn't need to be visible just when the drone landed or that it had to be visible externally.

That's how I took it.
I wrapped mine in a bright yellow-black tiger pattern to make it more visible for the times I park it in a tree...
The registration sticker would spoil the look and might not even be all that clear. So in the battery compartment, it is.

On Monday I travel to the UK and have just stumped up my £9 fee. 100% on the test, so not bad for an old fart.
Hope to get some new shots over there. I have photographed the whole Island I live on, including through tunnels, deep underground. Yes, using the drone.
Do have a look at Crazy but fun and the Island tour.
