Someone asked DJI and they responded it's FCC, see attached image. Is this correct though?

Other drones they ship to Australia are normally CE not FCC so this is weird.

Had quite a lot of range issues with my spark and one of the motivations to upgrade

Good news. I asked DJI and it's FCC for Australia. Also DJI STORE AU confirmed.

More accurately, we get SRRC (China) which the FCC model also supports. Range would be 2.5km vs 4km in 5.8Ghz band. Always been this way for Australia. The confusion arises as:

* 2.4Ghz = SRRC=CE (Same power)
* 5.8Ghz = SRRC <= FCC (slightly less)

So people automatically assume we get CE failing to factor in the 5Ghz band.

If you take it to USA, you get the max range.

From my understanding, the Mini will be the first drone launched in Australia to be an FCC model and will have only 5.8Hhz. It appears it is limited at hardware level.

This is all a bit alarming as my spark had a horrible range, especially when traveling Thailand. I just hope I get close to 4km in both Australia and Asia

Been range testing my newly picked up mini today and I only got around 400m in a suburban area. In fact, I very quickly lost connection and the drone auto returned to home, Bit alarming considering the was no interference on 5.8Ghz according to the app but I will save judgment for a better flight area.

I can confirm I received the FCC version with only 5.8ghz onboard but it seems it may be power limited by region as well.

See if it lets you pick another channel and try finding a clean one. Also try those reflectors you can buy online, I found they helped with the Wifi based quads, not so much on ocusync.

Can anyone who has the drone in Auz post their range please as <0.5km doesn't sound good.

I also asked DJI which countries use FCC and which use SRRC so I don't do anything illegal when I travel overseas with the drone - as the email says it can't be used in 2.8gHZ CE areas (but can be used in CE, FCC and SRRC 5.8gHz areas).

Bought a Mavic Mini at JB HiFi and after testing  I found that I only got about 1100 meters  over water and about 450 meters in the suburbs before RTH kicked in. Taken the unit back for a refund. So much for te advertised 4km.

The US models are all getting such great range. Makes me wonder if we really do get full FCC here
