Originally a hermitage, dating from the eighteenth century, is located in one of the most characteristic places of the town in the Sierra de la Fontanella, just 1 kilometer. It has a single nave with small side chapels, also highlighting its neoclassical facade. Its rococo style cover was finished in 1770. The population of the municipality of Biar dates from prehistoric times, charging demographic weight during the Bronze Age. Assigned this border place to the Crown of Aragon by the Treaty of Almizra of March 1244, the date that some consider as their surrender is that of 1245, while others delay it to 1253. It was the last city of the old Kingdom of Valencia that James I besieged, camping at their doors for 5 months before the city surrendered in good condition. Biar, due to its border status with the powerful lordship of Villena (belonging to the Kingdom of Castile), was a crucial nucleus in the Castilian-Aragonese conflicts and received successive privileges, among which the promise of Pedro IV of Aragon not to segregate the Villa and its Crown term. During the Germaniaries Biar had a prominent role as a revolutionary village, which earned him a fine of 1660 pounds.
