So this phantom 4 pro lost signal then didnt do as expected.  It is suppose to return to home but instead it flew to plus 1500 feet altitude and I restarted the app a number of times to try and regain signal. Finally, thank God, got control and landed it.  What the heck happened and how do I keep it from happening again?  What is this locked controller???

That had to be a hairy ride for you. ;-)

Thanks for keeping your cool enough to bring her home safe.

Hopefully you’ll get some great analysis of your flight, and try to correct this from ever happening again.

You're saying these five logs represent one flight?  Three of them are indicating you are starting motors and doing a manual take off.  How can this be?

Also I don't understand why you have started two threads under different headings but with the same OP...  https://forum.dji.com/forum.php? ... D559%26typeid%3D559

didn't know where io could get a response or if I would.  the logs are  I guess because what I did was quit the app while it was flying and restarted the app hoping it would connect.

Hi. I am sorry for the trouble this has caused you. With regards to the connectivity issue. I would recommend to fly the drone on a different location with less interference to isolate the issue. In addition. I will be posting an official DJI video tutorial for the best practices for flying the drone. Please keep us posted for further assistance. Thank you.

At least one of them are from November.

Edit:  The top one is November.  The last four are your troubled flight yesterday morning.  It appears you launched and landed after a few seconds and shut the motors off.  Then started them again which began your middle log.

You flew up about 300 feet almost straight up.  It's not a good idea to fly straight up because the signals cannot read correctly at that angle.  You lost connection but continued to climb.  You regained connection at 450 feet above home point.  Then that log ends.  It might have ended because you closed out the app or the app might have crashed due to the difficulty reading the angled signal.

The fourth log shows you are at 880 feet altitude and close to home point and moving closer to home in RTH mode.  Then the log ends after 4.5 secs.

The fifth log shows you are at 1650 feet altitude for reasons unknown.  You apparently canceled RTH between the 4th and 5th log and the AC gained quite a bit of altitude.  You successfully landed it.

I would check the calibration of your controller.  Recalibrate as necessary.  Then carefully test it at very low level in a large open field.  Work all the sticks to be sure everything is okay.  You might even tether the AC for the test to be extra sure your controller and Phantom's IMU is okay.  Assuming everything checks out, in the future, I would not fly straight up like you did.  You should fly out - not up - for ideal signal.  See the video in the post above.  Also, I would not fly in such a congested area.  There is the potential for all sorts of different problems - technical and legal.

Good luck

Thanks.  I was flying at about 60 feet to take a few roof images on a house.  Then the app said signal lost.  Then the drone started doing what it did.  I had absolutely no control over the drone.  I quit the app after not getting any signal back. restarted the app, as the drone was doing its own thing, hoping that would connect the signal.  I did that a few times before I finally got a message that said max altitude reached.  I was walking in a direction hoping to gain signal.  I was able to get control as the drone reached max altitude message appeared.  I was able to bring it back down to the ground.  Total loss of control at 60 feet and then the drone did all that climbing on its own when I had no signal.  I was very worried what else it was going to do.  Luckily it just went up and a weird spiral motion and didn't start heading in a n/s/e/w direction.
