I trying to decide if I should or shouldn't exchange it for another one.  Do you think it's broken? That range is literally half of what I've  seen on YouTube range tests. What range are you getting?

Well, I've only flown it about 4300ft but had no glitching. I could have gone further but it was a somewhat windy day and I don't like taking chances. That was done in an urban area from my backyard and in the middle of town with trees and houses all over. When I turned around I did lose connection with the drone and it scared the hell out of me but that was only like my second flight with it. I'm waiting for a good day when I have more time to try to take it a bit farther. Here is a video from that flight.

Are you sure you are using the FCC signal, is set to Manual or Automatic?

Set to auto. The back of the controller lists an "FCC ID". Does that confirm it's the FCC version?

A valid range test is taking it to where it's starts giving a lost signal warning.

If is set to automatic it may be picking up a weak channel or the 2.4 band.
Try changing to manual and select the correct band with strongest signal.

I really wasn't going after a range test. I was really only trying to get a shot of the lake. It was windier than I wanted for making a range test and I want to be more familiar with the drone before I attempt a full-on range test. I see lots of complaints from new pilots with little common sense. Crashes, flyaways, etc. One guy on youtube who literally has "Drone Reviews" as part of his channel name didn't even know how to properly point his antennas when flying overhead. I don't generally have $500 to just throw around. I treat my drone and other items like it. It was a complete blessing and a lot of hard work I'm still not finished with to even get the Mavic Mini.

How to tell the difference?

Look on the back of the controller. If it is the CE version it says CE in big white letters near the bottom I believe. The FCC version has an FCC ID real small under the dji in the top left. I'm sure there are better ways to identify the controller but that is the difference that I am aware of.

The FCC version doesn't even have the 2.4 GHZ band, so when the RC and the AC are connected, if you look at that setting, if it's FCC you should only see frequencies in the 5 GHZ range. That will tell you for sure. The labels should also give you the answer as well, but I have seen a couple posts on here of mis-labelling too.

Isn't there an assumption going on here that Mavic Mini is possibly cause.   When distance problem could be with SmartDevice being used to communicate with Mavic Mini.

Why do people think it's gonna have Cessna like range when it's 400 bucks? They do that on youtube to get views btw knowing all along if it crashes it's a gamble. Wind is gonna always change and thus the range.

Well my has CE at the bottom of the controller,EAC and model is MR1SD25.. But I have only 2.4 Ghz, that is the only option. No 5 Ghz. Drone was bought in Thailand.

I'm amazed anyone wants to send this tiny thing 2km+ away.  Maybe the UK is just boring but anything i want to film is easily in 500m range and i'd not want to go out of line of sight

That's strange. CE version is supposed to have both bands.

The normal CE version has both bands 100%. Maybe there's something specific about the models bought in Thailand due to some local regs? Or maybe just firmware detecting Thailand and removing 5.8 channels. This could be easily tested indoors with fakegps. Or a moderator could enlighten us

That could very well be. I've only read about two different models. Well, except for the models in Japan, but the only difference there isn't with the drone itself. It with the batteries. Apparently the Japanese model has smaller batteries.

But that doesn't mean that there couldn't be a difference for Thailand either.

if you have CE version, then you can pick 5.8GHz with manual mode.

No, I am 100% positive there is only 2.4 Ghz. Tried manual mode, there is nothing to chose. just 2.4 is there.

This isn't true. It depends on where you are flying. In Australia we have the FCC version and it defaults to the 2.4 band here.
