Can the Mavic Mini be flown without a wifi signal?

If you are refering to wifi signal as in an internet connection, yes. I fly using either an iPhone or an iPad air 2 and use them in air plane mode frequently.

You will only need mobile cellular data or WiFi when downloading the DJI Fly application and when updating the DJI Fly application. During the actual flight of your DJI Mavic Mini it is recommended to put your mobile device to airplane mode to minimize interference from calls and text. In addition the connection between the DJI Mavic Mini and with the DJI remote controller during the flight is enhanced Wi-Fi. Thank you.

It uses wifi to fly, but that’s between the controller and the drone.  It does not use phone wifi and I fly in airplane mode to reduce any chance of interference

So if you're in a mountains and DON'T have a wifi phone signal...it will still fly using the 'fly' app?  Is that correct?

Yes geoffz, you will be able to fly your DJI Mavic Mini. All you need to do is to link the DJI remote controller with the DJI Mavic Mini and you are all set to fly. Thank you.
