I've always installed via DJI Assistant 2 since the MP was purchased 3 years ago. During that time, I've never had any problems with upgrades until the .400/.500 series was released.
I've tried everything that's been suggested. Multiple installs, factory resets, progressive installs, skipping from factory reset to latest version, etc. Every time I upgrade from .300 to .400/.500, my MP simply acts erratic. It will not land within 30 feet of the pad when I RTH, it continually loses connection during flight, flies at sport mode speeds in GPS mode, etc. Again, it's like it's possessed when I fly it on anything but .300 firmware.
On .300 software, my MP is rock solid. I can fly it to extreme ranges with no disconnects, it never misses the landing pad on RTH, etc. I've talked to others who have had similar problems with the latest software (but not to the extremes that I've experienced) and they all say the same thing: Just stay with what your MP is happy with. It doesn't seem that I'm missing anything by upgrading to the latest firmware and I'm happy with the way my MP performs now, so I'm guessing this is where I'll stay until the MP 5 comes out.
