Good starting points.
Also better 10-11 sats, perform the hoover for some seconds plus all stick inputs.
Consider winds may be 2, 3 or 4 times stronger the more you ascend.

Plus before takeoff check drone arrow in the map view, check for:
- pointing the same direction as the actual craft heading
- arrow is steady indicating and not slowly moving

Plus after takeoff do the same, fly away about 6 meters and check position of arrow * in the aircraft orientation indicator. (if incorrect than mobile device compass is incorrect)

* arrow pointing = data from drone compass
* arrow positioning ( in the upper 180 scale **) = data from mobile device compass

** if drone is flying behind RC arrow is positioned on the back line.

cheers

Good point JJB, it actually takes no that much time.
For me spending 2-3 minutes making sure everything is fine is worth it.
Patience is a virtue!

Make sure home point is recorded
Don’t take off if Fly App is showing any red warnings
If it’s windy, put drone into Sports Mode

THIS

Don't use RTH if you can manually fly the drone home. If the home point was recorded incorrectly or the wind is strong they drone will NOT come back to you just because you his the RTH button. RTH is to be used in an emergency only.

That said, there was been probably 3-4 times in my 3 years of drone flights that the automatic RTH saved my drone, so it's still a great feature to have. Just shouldn't be used without a good reason. Think of it as an airbag in your car. It's great to have if you drive into a wall, but using the brakes is still a safer option.
