I was inspired to try one myself.
As I am on a Windows machine I had to use Autopano Giga. Not as easy as in the tutorial, but it worked

I see you can use photoscape to do this with just one image
I thought it needed a full sphere.

No,  its a simple click on tiny planet and then select invert and adjust the zoom and blend.  Took seconds.
