Hey guys, today, for the second time I got this problem of "Critically Low Voltage Warning", luckily in both times I was about to land and very close to the drone.

In the first time (2 months ago) it was about 15%, landing, and then it dropped to zero. Today it was 23% when dropped to zero. I can't say if it was the same battery. I've seen other mavic air users with this problem, now I'm getting worried about this, because depending on where it happens can be catastrophic.

Flight Log  -  https://drive.google.com/file/d/ ... 3o/view?usp=sharing

This was the 3rd flight of the day, with the 3rd battery, at this point everythig was ok and I was coming for landing:

Screenshot_20200117-153438.png

5 seconds later it dropped to zero with the error:

Hello and good day JonnyHammer. I am sorry for the trouble this has caused and thank you for reaching out. Can you please refresh the firmware of your DJI Mavic Air and see if the issue will still perstst? In addition this issue was due to battery communication is not working properly. I would recommend checking the pins on the battery as well on the aircraft if it has damage. If none, you may clean the pins using the dry soft brush to check if there will be changes or if you would encounter this error message again. Please keep us posted on the latest progress. Thank you for your support and fly safe always.

Hiya,

Looks like a bad #2 cell, see chart.

I just downloaded your software and analyzing I can see clearly that the cell 2 of battery 36446 is not functioning properly, it varies up to 1300 mV, my other 2 batteries varies approximately  50 mV:

Yes everything is clean, updated and calibrated, it's an issue in a cell in one of my batteries.

Very good software indeed, but I can't resize or make it full window, so the bottom doesn't appear to me. I can't see the graphs below because of that.

Yeah, FRAP is a nice piece of software.

Another alternative or complement is--> Airdata
Free to use with most of the useful functions & possibility to store 100 flight logs (Free account). The possibility that gives you is that you can monitor the slight degradation of batteries over time and take them off duty before something as your event happens. The only thing you need to do to have the logs automatic uploaded to Airdata is to sync your flight logs in the GO4 app to DJI servers then specify your DJI login under the Airdata account details.

Your battery from your flight log:

This is from one of my worst MA batteries, combining hundreds of flights ...

Hi,

Thanks, yes FRAP is nice  ;-)    imo it does give more insight in the combination and interaction of data in the various charts.

But what counts for each software tool, none is perfect and FRAP isn`t perfect too.
In the latest version user can check if drone looses height with no input, or doesn`t want to go up with RC stick up....etc.

Around 30, it's from may 2018, relatively new.

Last year it stayed around 4 months without use, half-charge around 60%, but the other two batteries stayed as well and they are fine.

*WHY* the drone don´t warn us about cell deviation during flight?????

That's exactly what I was thinking, DJI should do something about this otherwise many people will lost their drones because of that, cell deviation is a very common problem.

In this video DJI GO shows an option "Show Voltage on Main Screen", but my DJI GO doesn't have this:

After I analyzed the parameters, the "Critically Low Voltage Warning" appears when the cell deviation is above 1000 Mv, so this isn't a warning, is more like a mayday emergency situation right?

A warning should be given when the cell deviation hits around 500 mV, so the operator could have time to assess the situation and bring it back safely, imagine if it happens in a long range? I've already put my mavic 2,2 km away

Anyways for now I set my Fn button in the controller to display the battery screen on DJI GO, so I can monitor the deviation before it's critical.

Never on purpose let the battery down to 0% ... discharge to 8% the charge to 100%.

The gain of this kind of "battery service" is largely debated ... mainly it somewhat suppose to restore the batteries maximum charge capacity nothing more.

When it comes to your battery this will not "repair" it ... that battery is shot, dispose of it, it's just a matter of time until this happens again and then you perhaps aren't so lucky.

The pros of Airdata.com over FRAP is that it provide you with an easy hands off workflow to get all your logs in the same place, and by that gives you the possibility to monitor the trend of a battery & draw conclusions from that.

My worst battery shown from Airdata in my earlier post is placed under monitoring, after each flight I check the trend to be prepared to take it off duty. For instance I never use that battery in colder weather.

I bet that your battery had been questioned by critical eyes long before this happened if the trends had been available.

I've read that it could maybe restore the defective cell, so I tried. The process is turning it on, without hovering, and let the battery discharge completely, but the mavic air shuts down when gets to 10%.

I'm not using this battery after the last incident. Maybe I'll keep to internal takes, sometimes I film houses and other properties to the real estate market, in these cases wouldn't be a problem.

I f I knew this problem would occur in less than 2 years of use I'd watch it closely.

It's kind of disappointing that this battery is defective with around 30 cicles and less than 2 years.

From now on I'll analyze the logs for every flight and observe the trends.

Yeah ... that would be a good addition, I don't mind storing my device logs, both txt & dat locally.
If trend values over for instance calculated theoretical total flight time & cell deviations over time could be presented per battery identity out from a group of logs would be perfect.

Happened to me twice. The sedcond time, last week, I was extremely lucky to not loose my drone. Both times the drone behaved strangely right before the battery fail. As happened to many, many others, 1 cell gets bad while the other 2 are healthy. Surely a desing failure. And surely ridiculous DJI had done nothing about it. Not even updated the app to give some warnings about battery degradation.
Last week, I've flown perfectly one day and literally the next day it failed midflight.
One week later and I still cant believe how absurd this situation is without DJI doing anything about it. And I've ALWAYS followed all standard and recommended procedures.HOW CAN WE SAFELY FLY A DRONE WITH A BATTERY THAT MAY FAIL ANYTIME WITHOUT ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OR WARNING?  Its a timebomb waiting to explode.

I still can't figure out why DJI put a "warning" only when the drone is at the point of making an emergency landing, and no previous warnings before the critical stage.

The battery is the fuel of the drone, so this is like an airplane with no indicators of fuel flow, only a warning message when it has almost no flow.... come on, this makes no sense at all.

We are tend to watch the battery percentage very closely, but this cell deviation is a very common problem that most drone operators are not aware of, until 2 weeks ago I didn't even know that this exists...

My defective battery was always stored with 60%, protected from heat and humidity, it's not swollen etc. It has a normal looking, but inside has a cell deviation of 1300 mV! With 30 cicles and less than 2 years of use, I'm very disappointed with this.

Hi there,

I have followed steps he showed without success, after few minutes my light go solid red on the gimbal.

What I noticed my battery seems ok I can charge it and light bars works fine but there is no data when checking on DJI GO App it shows 0% on all cells 0V all options seems disable.
Rest looks fine I can format SD GPS ok etc via DJI GO App

From SD Card hidden file "3X_FW_LOG_AB" I have noticed few modules not deceted as showed below, but for some people in similar case reinstal firmware helped:

Hey guys, two days ago my drone crashed..... I was flying along then out of the blue my battery level dropped from 35 to 0 and I got a message saying critically low battery. I immediately turned around and started to go back to shore but it didn’t make it. I had full deflection forward and up but to no avail; it crashed about a 100 yards out and I wasn’t able to find it. The next morning I called DJI and told them everything but they pulled the stupid move. They said since it wasn’t under warranty anymore it wasn’t refundable. (I got it in January of 2019) I think this is totally unfair since it’s obviously their fault and not pilot error. What should I do?

I'm sorry that you lost your drone, this proves that this "critically Low Voltage Warning" message should be given much sooner. It's absolutely nonsense get this message when it's already an emergency landing situation.... I can't figure out why put this message only in the last moment, unbelievable.

Cell deviation could be shown on the app main screen, for example, once it deviates 20% the first warning is shown, 40% the second and there it goes....then we can fly the drone back safely before it's critical.

Depending where the drone is flying (above water, busy road, properties etc) the operator will have nothing to do to save it.

The correct way to avoid this is to show cell deviation on the app main screen, for example, once it deviates 20% the first warning is shown, 40% the second and there it goes....it's so simple, then we can fly the drone back safely before it's critical.

You can write to DJI support, maybe they have an option for criticisms or complaints. There are moderators on the chat as well.
