Hi there!
Im new here, and new with dji drones. The mavic mini is my first dji product. I love it but having some issues. when i take off, it keeps hovering at 1,2m rock solid. but when i push the forward stick, it starts to rise. At a 150m distance(only with forward stick) it goes up to 18-20m. when i bring it back and lower it to 1,2m the altitude shows 5-8m in dji fly app. this is not very accurate, maybe the barometer sensor is bad?

Any ideas?
(imu calibrated perfectly, and compass is calibrated before flying)

Thanks!

This is a strange one , have you tried calibrating the control sticks in DJI Fly
It's in the control menu under RC calibration

Are you using mode 2 , which is the standard control stick configuration ?

Sounds like you're flying in Mode 1 vs Mode 2. In Mode 1, the "throttle" is on the right stick (that's the up/down control) and in Mode 2, the throttle is on the left stick.

As for the altitude accuracy, make sure you are looking at the VPS readout, not the GPS readout. When you hover close to the ground, the bottom sensors come into play and the VPS readout is usually spot on. GPS however is +/- about 3' if I remember correctly. So use VPS for low altitude and GPS for higher altitudes.

I agree with you but the strange is that he said "At a 150m distance(only with forward stick) it goes up to 18-20m".
If it was in Mode 1, the distance should be 0. Right?

I'm not sure we're getting the full story. He may be using the other stick too and just not stating that in his post. Flight log would clear things up, but the only cases I've ever seen this happen (especially with a new pilot) is flying in Mode 1.

Hopefully he'll give us some insight shortly.

Exactly, it makes no sense that mode 1 is the problem, otherwise it would be going straight up in the air. Problem is that MM is climbing vertically 20m over a horizontal distance of 150m without throttle input.

Sounds like VPS is confused, constantly thinking that AC is slowly losing altitude and is adding throttle to compensate without user input.

Hi. I am sorry for the trouble this has caused. With regards to this concern. Can you please refresh the firmware of the said drone using the DJI Assistant 2 if issue still persists please provide a short video of the said issue. Please keep us posted for better assistance. Thank you.

The drone is climbing on its own. Right stick forward, no throttle, just forward, and for 25-30 m it keeps the altitude but after that it is start to climb.
This afternoon i calibrated everything again, yet the drone still climbing(not that bad like before), there was absolutely no wind. When i yaw left/right it keeps the altitude perfectly.....

Hi Paul,

GPS readout?  GPS is not used for Altitude in any way on DJI drones.
Height is measured by a baromeric sensor, at takeoff the height iss re-set to zero, as a reference height for the flight.

At low altitude and in VPS range the height is also measured by the bottom sensor, but not seen on a MM as MM shows only the barometric height.

cheers

I've actually seen this reported a couple times before, especially the part about the drone returning to the starting point and showing a different height than it was when it first started.

Here is a small snapshot of my DJI Mini 2 flight yesterday from Airdata UAV website.  I am flying in Mode 2 and there was NO throttle input from the controller during this section of the flight.  On the websites HD Flight Player the throttle lever does not move. As you can see both Barometric Alt and Sonar Alt both increase as I fly.  This was a straight flight with only the pitch stick pushed full forward.  I also noticed this with my original mini as well.  Straight flight, no matter if flying into or with the wind, this happens.

Hi I’m having the same issues.. I literally just took the mini 3 out of the box took it to a test flight and I’m having the same issues, I have about 120  hours of flying so everything is set to how I normally would fly, mode 2 controller, DJI pro view rc. Everything is right as far as setting, I tried calibrating everything, still having the same issues.. it’s very f-in frustrating and irritating… from hover and I press and hold the right joystick up, the drone moves forward like for 30 meters then it goes straight up about 30 meters then drops back down 30 meters all at 3.1m/s then it’ll go forward 30 meters and then do the same thing.. everything is updated… hopefully you can see the video im going to attach
