But if it takes an age for the video to start and then its constantly buffers Id rather have something lesser quality that actually works how it should.

If your editing software makes proxies its doable just very slow making the proxies and then exporting the video later.

Resolve does a lot better actually. But I don't like its workflow.

I like resolve, but its lack ofd log and 4k in the free version pushed me to FCPX,  and its better optimised for Mac hardware too.

I don't suppose it will be long till we see 16k TV's and cameras.

With 8k tv's becoming the norm over the next couple of years for the mid to high end I guess there is a place for 8k drones. Let's face it you will mostly be looking at your own footage as there is not much else at that resolution.

As already mentioned though, editing 8k (inH265) will require considerable hardware resources.

I would assume the enthusiast able to afford both the above will have no problem with that though.

For the one 8K video I made I just made proxies, they take a little while to generate but makes the editing fine,  then comes the wait to export the project, but at least you can leave the computer to do that and go and do something else.

I think that's just to get rid of the black areas you would have if you didn't do that.

That is to make the screen readable.
At least, that is what it does on my screen. (enlarge everything)
And that is my whole point.
Most people won't need >FHD because their screen is not large enough.

Everything gets zoomed in.
Menu's, buttons, text etc. etc.
This is to make things clickable and readable.

Proxies are necessary if you edit off of a mechanical hard drive and /or your CPU (Intel) is lower than 7th gen chips.  I had a 7th gen CPU and still needed to use proxies to edit HEVC/4K footage.
I now have straight SSD's in my rig, with an 8th gen CPU and I my editing has never been smoother with raw HEVC/4K footage.
I'm actually interested in getting my hands on raw 8K footage to see how my setup handles it.

I use Premiere 2018 and Vegas 17.  Premiere handles 4K much smoother than Vegas.  Even when I tried optimal settings in Vegas, it still stuttered, regardless of my hardware being able to handle it.  If Sony still managed Vegas, this may not be an issue, though MAGIX is a decent company, IMO.

Most editors do right now, but Sony Vegas Pro (14) lacks.

I have a 'test' version.
Still looking for a good replacement that is not that pricey.
Resolve does not work for my available time.
It just takes too long to edit the way I like to edit.
So for now Vegas it is.
