What would the shadow matter? I lost signal when I left the shadow and went into the direct light technically.

I think the Mavic went down from a depleted battery.  Often enough the battery voltage drop is not linear below 30-40%. Hopefully, the drone will have made a safe landing, where is the question? Good luck.

I hope this works out for you,  BUT

Your signal will NOT go through a building.  So = signal lost

How were your settings for RTH?  Not too sure if 2 Zoom has APAS.....

Was your return to home higher than those buildings? If not It could have returned home but hit the building.... Also depending on how many flights you have on your batteries.... If you have a lot of flights on them, sometimes when you get 30% and under battery drops off rapidly your drone could have went into Auto landing

Not really into the subject but how many flights / charge times can be done before that battery problem can come up?
What is like lifetime of battery. When you stop using the old battery and buy a new one?

What altitude did you set?  I setup the altitude while on flight.  I lost signal when it went around a building for a split second too but it took the same route back instead of going way up and back.

The building masked the line of sight to your craft and the signal of your rc could  not reach the drone...

I know this area of Atlanta well.  Probably landed on either a building or an automobile.

Set to 400 Feet, below some buildings. I'm sure at this point it probably auto landed and someone took it I searched every rooftop and tree very well immediately.
