As I am owning the Mavic Mini now for a +- 2 weeks, I thought to share one of the first footages that I made two weeks ago around a river in the Netherlands.
Any suggestions to improve the filming / flying quality are welcome of course!
Your first panning move is a bit quick, but later the other are slower and much more smooth, I'd also suggest you try flying backwards to create a reveal style.
Valuable input! It’s still quite tricky to do the panning smoothly, especially to also not make the footage “boring” by being slow. Will practise a bit more!
Nice to see!
Good area to start your flying!
Indeed, slow is the key. And hard to accomplish.
But make sure to remember: slow != boring.
Long = boring.
If you add short sequences of slow movements, it won't look boring.
It will look 'cinematic' (or at least, it will start to look like that).
Fast paced video is a different matter. Very hard to capture and edit in a way they are pleasing to watch.
Usually it looks just 'not structured' and 'distracting' if you fly / edit fast.
This is an example of 'slow' but nice movements (it is my own, so I'm a little bit biased )
Notice I try to make 'multi direction' moves. (both sticks in different positions and sometimes even add gimbal motion in the same shot).
I usually have to make these a couple of times before I'm happy with the result. Just fly back and try again.
The shots usually take (much) longer and I only keep a small portion in my final edit to keep the total time somewhere between 2 or 5 minutes.
Cinema mode (not sure how it is called in the Mini) is a good starting point.
Hi Montfooij!
thanks for the valuable input as well, guess I'll start playing around a bit further with the movements, as well as the editing!
Which program do you guys recommend for editing? For now I am using IMovie for videos, but should find a more sophisticated program.
