After 2019 "at home" finally the holidays!  

I spent 17 days in 5 of the 9 islands of the Azores archipelago: São Miguel, Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Terceira. They are fairly remote and sparsely populated islands, located in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, to get an idea: 1400km from Lisbon and 3600km from New York.

The weather I met in January was disastrous: wind, rain and the perennial low clouds stationed in the center of the islands prevented the exploration of the hinterland, you understand well the difficulties I encountered to use the drone, it forced me to go back in some places many times and to undertake a real hunt for the perfect moment, unfortunately (despite the efforts) in São Jorge island I was able to make only one flight.

I thank the Regional Directorate for the Environment of the Azores Islands for authorizing me to use the drone in some protected areas, Gorreana Tea Factory for allowing me to use the drone inside their property and the Autoridade Aeronáutica Nacional (e-AAN) for giving me permission to fly and film with my drone.
  
This is the first episode of this trip, I spent 5 days on the island of São Miguel, I hope you enjoy the video.

A simply stunning montage of a spectacular island. My PC screensaver is of the Grota do Inferno lookout. If only I had had my Mavic with me to years ago. Sao Miguel is largely unpoilt by torism, so it's raw beauty stands out. (And cheap to get to from Europe!) Thanks for sharing.

Simply amazing footage!  I'm curious what editing software you use and what you used to film while not flying?  Also, are the audio clips samples of the ocean, birds, etc?

I used a panasonic G95 with a 14-140 superzoom and a laowa 7.5mm wide lens, gopro 7 black for inside and outside the car, finalcut for editing, rode videomicro for in camera audio and tascam dr05x for background sound like ocean and birds.

Sounds like quite the culmination of tools both hardware and software-wise.   For someone (like me) relatively new to drone videography (<18 months) would you recommend any software that would be easy to produce higher quality videos (and most important, is intuitive) than my current output of iMovie!  Thanks in advance and best wishes from Denver, CO, USA!

Hi, let's say they are certainly good starting points, but there is better.

I have never used other programs besides finalcut, I can recommend DaVinci resolve, I have never used it but I know it is truly professional and quality and above all it is FREE.

For audio I can recommend sites that I myself often use when I am not satisfied with the audio that I have recorded or want to add details, such as freesound.org and zapsplat.com, they are also royalty free sites.

To edit in 4k I also recommend that you work in proxy mode and work with an external SSD, this will greatly ease your pc.
I personally use SanDisk Extreme SSD 500GB for editing and for backup my SD cards on the go through my Samsung S8+ and Anker 7-in-1 hub (old version, newest will not work with the smartphones).

I hope I have been helpful and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
