I did panic a little as it just dropped on its own - I flew it straight back to the beach and the it belly was wet. I want to think it was only the spray from the props

Be kind of you to provide the txt file flight log of the flight and point out when the drop happened. There are increasing cases of this getting reported and it can be very dangerous to pilots not in the know. Let me know if you need help extracting the txt file. Upload to share can be done here on phantomhelp. I would like to investigate your flight and post the results here.

Nice recovery.  Hopefully there is no residual damage to any of the internal electronic components.

wow, the water is so clear!  Great footage.

What actually causes the mini to drop over water when flying very low to it? I mean you have gps positioning. I know the vps or dvs (how the manual of the mini refers to them) doesn't work well over water but why does it actually cause it to drop?
