Went out for a quick flight before it got dark and noticed a deer crossing the road, I flew over to them and got as close as I could and followed them till a car scares them off.

I got close to a squirrel once hanging on the side of a tree. Was able to get pretty close and get pictures. For some reason, he didn't run.

For future encounters, and when conditions allow (no obstructions - trees / power-lines); you probably could have gotten closer to deer without bothering them.
