Hi guys,

I recently installed some carbon fibre 8045 props after one of my DJI plastic 8045 props snapped off in flight. I found that the 1038 DJI props, though tougher, make for a less stable platform.

My question is, should I use some kind of thread lock or plastic washers underneath the bolts to secure the props on? They are not self tightening and where the carbon fibre is not as soft as the plastic, I'm worried that they will be more likely to come loose. Anyone got any smart ideas about how best to secure them on?

I guess I should include details of my current setup. It is as follows:

DJI F550
Retractable undercarriage
GoPro Hero 4 on Zenmuse gimbal
Naza M V2
Turnigy 5000mAh 4S Flight battery
Bev RC video downlink
1200 mah 3S downlink battery
Standard 30A ESCs
Standard Red 920Kva motors
8045 carbon fibre props

All up weight is almost bang on 2.5kg

I use DJI 1038 props on my F550 with a very similar set set and my F550 is very stable.

I would check on adjusting your gains before switching to CF props.

Thanks for the message. Do you use 4 cell batteries or 3 cell? Also what are your gain settings if you don't mind me asking? My rig is stable with the 1038s, but not as stable as with 8045s. I had to adjust the gains up to 185% to get it to fly right because the craft seems to be more affected by gusts and stuff...

I use a 4 cell.

My gains are Basic: pitch 120 roll 120 yaw 120 vertical 120
                        Attitude: 90 90
this is with the DJI 1038props

If you are at 185 it sounds like you are too high. this would cause you to be unstable.
