Sounds like the Mavic Mini 2 will have Follow Me feature....

https://www.techradar.com/uk/new ... ing-from-mavic-mini

Shame it will still need to be registered when the new rules hit the UK in December.

Follow me is different to active track - in 'old world' follow me was a mode that created a tether over WiFi between the RC and AC so the drone followed the remote typically being held by the operator. Active track uses the sensing system within the drone which this doesn't seem to have. Will be interesting to see what follow me offers on the mini 2.

We'll know soon enough, I think it's going to be a stationary Follow me. Spotlight or basic tracking from litchi, fly your drone to where you want,  highlight what you want, and the drone stays in place but follows you. It'll be interesting if they added Follow me that actually tracks the remote.

According to the article it uses the remote to decide where to go.

It would be cool if he incorporated it into the MM, but don't dream. New update for dji fly but just for the Mini2

Yeah, I think it'll be something along those lines - I'm quite tempted to get the MM2 - we'll see!

Yes it will for sure - as it is capable of being flown 400' or more in any direction from the remote.

I would agree, with no sensors this would put the drone at risk of getting damaged by new pilots who do not understand

Indeed - I can't see it myself - unless there is some new tech in this one that weighs about 1g

We must not forget that it is a 249g so ocusync nice but as the MM it is quite fragile to the wind so increase the range, in 1 week we will have I think many people who will complain about having lost it

You will get plenty lost drone posts on here after some time with the mini 2 and damaged ones about hitting a tree in follow me.

Possibly but this is still going to be the new entry level drone in the whole line up. I'd be amazed but there again, this is DJI.

I feel they are going to launch 2 drones, the mini and M3 - here's to hoping they blow the competition out the water

That would be quite something - the M3 will take the spot light for sure if thats the case - though they launched the Phantom 4 Pro and Inspire 2 at the same time and nobody was expecting the P4P

"actually tracks the remote"

" it uses the remote"

I doubt that the remote has any GPS capability, but it can use the GPS in the phone/tablet.

Yes it will for sure - as it is capable of being flown 400' or more in any direction from the remote.

Just the camera will do it alone too.

A lot of people think that but if the drone has a camera but is not capable of being flown >400' in any direction it will be classed as a toy and won't require registration.

Registration required: "only if camera equipped (but not toys)". Any drone that can not fly more than 400' from the device is classed a toy.

The rules says -

However, you do not need to register yourself.
if your drone(s):
1.    weighs less than 250g and has no camera or other sensor able to detect personal data; or
2.    even with a camera or other sensor, weighs less than 250g, but is a toy (this means that its documentation shows that it complies with ‘toy’ Directive 2009/48/EC);

Point 2 is exactly what I said... If it's a toy it will not need to be registered even if equipped with a camera. The 'toy' definition in directive 2009/48/EC states that the toy drone can not be flown >400' from the device being used to operate it and thus designed for children.
