I've bought SC when it started to support MA2. The latest working Fly app version was 1. 1. 10. After installing incompatible 1. 2. 0 the only option was to get back to 1. 1. 6
So the question to DJI is quite obvious: Are we, owers of SC and MA2, stuck with old Fly app?

not sure.  please remind us, what are sc users missing from not being able to update to the latest fly app?

there’re two ways to install fly app on SC: official  firmware upgrade and “not-so-official” direct .apk file download and install to SC.
firmware upgrade has happened just once and gave us fly 1. 1. 6.
the latest .apk on DJI site was 1. 2. 0 which is incompatible with Smart Controller.
i’ve tried to install fly 1. 1. 8 - 1. 1. 10 from 3rd party archive sites but failed.

It works for me with 1.1.10. Downloade on DJI site with apk.
I tested it with success 2 days ago.

But the APK is still on my SD card...

anyway current Fly version is 1.2.1 and my question to DJI is still actual

I have also 1.1.10, but the weather does not allow longer flights. This version should be OK after what DJI writes:
"DJI Fly v1.2.0 is not compatible with DJI Smart Controller. To use DJI Fly on DJI Smart Controller, please download an earlier version of DJI Fly. DJI is working to release a new version of DJI Fly that is compatible with DJI Smart Controller as soon as possible."

The latest v 1.2.1 for the DJI Fly app that was released recently is not compatible with the DJI Smart Controller. The only option is to go back to the previous version and the version is v1.1.6. If you have updated the DJI Flyapp from the Smart Controller you can go back to the previous version which is v1.1.6 and it will be resolved in the next version.
Please follow the steps below to put back the App previous version.
1.Go to "Settings" and tap "Apps";
2.Tap DJI Fly App;
3.Tap "..." at the right upper corner of the screen;
4. Tap "uninstall updates" at the right upper corner of the screen.

I know how to get back Fly 1.1.6. quite well. My question was are we stuck, and if yes, for how long with outdated version of Fly?

DJI doesn't know when it will happen.
I was in contact with the DJI support...

But would it be nice of DJI to make the latest compatible Fly available for their customers

The version of the Fly app on the SC is  created specifically for the SC.  So yes we will always be behind on versions, and they will always be the last to be updated.

On release of SC dji did promise to have it completely up to date all of the time. I’m afraid they failed miserably....

Guess it wasn't so smart after all ;-)

The Smart Controller uses a  32 bit processor architecture and the Android and IOS apps use 64 bit.  The Smart Controller app has to compiled for 32 bit and should be rolled out at the same time as the DJI Fly app updates with a firmware updated for the Smart Controller or at the very least an APK update compiled by DJI.  

I really want to get a Smart Controller but with the orientation compass not working and the slow app updates I have not.  DJI is losing my business on purchasing the Smart Controller by not keeping the app and features update and working.

Well the SC has a new firmware update and it included 1.2.2 compatibility.
