I've had the Mini 2 since around November 12th and it's been great so far until today when I tried flying in my front yard. I turned on both drone and transmitter and tried connecting but Fly app couldn't find drone to pair with. Never had this issue before so followed the on screen instructions to try pairing so got transmitter in pairing mode and kept the power button in the Mini 2 pressed for at least 4 seconds. It says you will hear the Mini 2 beep but couldn't get a beep out of it. Lol
I tried numerous times and still no luck. I currently fly 6 DJI products and never had much issue out of any of them until today. Any one there have a similiar issue and how did you resolve it? I've already made out a claim ticket to return for repair but wanted to give a shout out before I ship it back to DJI.

It is a strange situation.i am also confident you are correctly following the instructions to pair them.i only one time had to repair mine.double check your pushing and holding the button starting with the aircraft already turned on.good luck bro.

I was hoping to get a suggestion from DJI but I've never experienced a failure like this with any of the DJI drones that I've owned. It's very strange in that it worked 2 days earlier and when I went to  fly it on Sunday with no changes whatsoever, it required pairing which I couldn't accomplish. My question is for DJI is what do I send back for repair? I want to just ship back the Mini 2 and transmitter without the batteries and other various accessories because it will be that much less that they could inadvertently not return to back to me. Any suggestions DJI? The Mini 2 would not shut down without removing the batteries after I pressed the power button for 4 seconds so I know something is amiss.

I sent the Mini 2 in for repair and this is the response I got from your repair service.
Remark
"Dear Customer, Your device is within the normal tolerances and shows neither safety nor quality issues. If the problem occurs again, please contact our support for further assistance."

Stephen, I've owned many DJI drones since 2014 and have never experienced not being able to pair the device to the transmitter nor has this error ever occurred to begin with. Maybe you could look further into this case before they ship it back to me?

Thankyou for sharing your experience. It gave me confidence when I experience exactly the same problem. The Mini 2 was perfect on its very first outing. The next day it would not pair, with exactly the same experience that you had. DJI advised to get a replacement from my retailer as it was so new. To anyone else seeing this, if support (Amazon in my case), asks you to install DJI Assistance, say no. It doesn't work. The software cannot see the drone so do not waste your time. Now I am looking forward to getting airborne again after a fantastic first experience on day one. Fingers crossed this stuck in pairing mode situation is a rare error and is not rife. It's strange how it worked perfectly the first time but not the second time.

Yep. It seems to be a problem that they don't want to address. It's not like I just started flying drones and don't know what I'm doing. I currently own 6 DJI drones so I'm not a newbie. I'm still waiting for my Mini 2 to be delivered. They shipped it out on the 29th and here it is the 4th. Slow boat from China. Actually Cerritos California but might as well be China.
All the tech notes say is that they could not replicate my issue. Go figure. Wish they could be honest and tell us how to go about pairing in a different way than they publish but doesn't work for some

The data cable is fine. Tried dji fly versions 1.2.0, 1.2.1, 1.2.2. It did not help. I reset my smartphone to factory settings - it didn't help. I opened the developer menu on my phone and tried all the USB connection options - it didn't help. I checked the flight mode - it did not help. The smartphone can transfer files when connected to a PC, so my phone's jack is fine.

Damn I just sent back my drone to amazon because i had the same issue. pressing the button for 3 seconds doesn't do anything, there is no beep telling me pairing mode is on, and impossible to shut down the drone afterwards.
Amazon made no fuss at all, sent me back a new one 5 days after. I just opened it and... SAME PROBLEM!! WHAT THE HELL??
Maybe its a firmware issue? Although I did update the previous one when i first connected it. This one, I cant even connect to do the update. What can i do???

I had the same problem twice.
Turned everything off, tried again and boom! All good.
Last time i had added a text file to my sd card (reward id found...) and i think that screwed it up.
Formatted the card and all good again.

Update. I got the Mini2 back from DJI repair less than 2 weeks ago then went on vacation down in SW Florida before I had the change to check it out. I tried pairing last Friday when we got down here and the same exact issue. It will not pair. Last Friday I took the drone to a company called drone supply of Florida down in Fort Myers and they couldn’t get my drone to pair with the transmitter either. They called DJI on my behalf and asked me to send the drone back once again. Keep in mind that DJI’s repair service could not replicate my issue so I have no idea what’s going on and even the drone repair specialist down in Florida has no clue. WTF.

I’m pleased these two threads have joined somewhat. I was also sure they were related. Very strange how file names can prevent pairing. I need to order a mini 2 after returning mine with the same problem. I’ve not received a replacement yet as none are in stock.

This isssue has caused several drones to be returned unnecessarily, wasting time,  effort and flying time for drone owners. It also incurs expense for DJI where it could have been avoided by better documentation or better trained DJI support staff.

There are already many sticky posts on this forum so adding another is probably not a good idea. DJI - how about combining key alerts, including the file name length restriction, into one consolidated “latest guidance” sticky post here? The drones should be shipped with documentation referring to this. It used to be called release notes in days gone by.

Either way, I’m concerned that many more drones will be returned unnecessarily if this thread becomes aged, disappears from view, and has to be reinvented many times over.

You are a hero!  Thanks! Saved my trip which I start tomorrow to a crisis zone where I need to take drone recordings. One day before the trip this problem showed up on my Mini 2, no connection to the controller, not even by cable to the computer!

DJI had no solution. My Care Refresh contract only allowed me to send the drone to a repair center and wait long after my trip is over to get it back!

And in fact it so easy to solve that problem: take out the SD card! Format it! Put it back! DONE!

Thanks a lot,  I owe you a beer if I ever come to California!

I had the same issue a while back with mine and tried exactly the same as what you did with yours. In my case, I had to send it back to DJI who had to replace the Aircraft Core Board Module. I wouldn't be surprised if you have the same issue as I did. Bit of a pain given that the drone was new and should be free of fault but DJI sorted it out quickly and the process on their behalf went smoothly. The only problem for me being based in the UK was having to go through EU customs which was painfully pedantic on the way out but no issues coming back into the UK.

Hi,

Just bought a DJI Mini 2. My iPhone XR pairs with the DJI app no problem, but I can’t paint the controller with the drone. After making multiple attempts, I was able to connect briefly. Saw a message in the app that I needed to do a firmware update. I was able to complete 28% of the firmware download, but the connection between the drone & controller kept dropping. Haven’t been able to reconnect.

I saw some of the other posts in this thread that indicated it was a problem with the micro SD card. As soon as the card was reformatted, this solved the pairing problem. I don’t have a micro SD card installed at the moment.  I’m waiting for one from Amazon, scheduled to arrive in a couple of days. Is it worth waiting for the micro SD card & then try pairing again, or should I just return it to Best Buy and get a new one? Has anyone else had the same problem pairing with no micro SD installed?

It almost seems like sabotage of some sort is going on with DJI firmwares, etc. I'm partially kidding about that but my Air 2S has developed issues after I updated firmware through Assistant 2 and Fly database update. I'm holding on for solutions as well.
In the meantime, try another new formatted SD card for your Mini 2 and try again
