As far as I know, they do here in the US as well, but it is getting data that is not overly current, and very likely no where near you. The other thing to keep in mind is that real airplanes and our drones have a very different need for winds aloft information. Real airplanes for the most part don't care about winds aloft until at least a few thousand feet up whereas we really want detailed information only up to a few hundred feet. For our purposes, having data for ground level to let's say 500 feet AGL with readings every 25 feet at the location where you are flying would be great. Aviation weather observations (including balloons) do not give that level of detail.
I have even considered building a 'hacky' screen overlay for the DJI Fly with wind information taken from the log file in real time but unfortunately there is no open-source log file parser and the ones that do exist are not suitable for fast, non-interactive log file parsing. Even got in touch with CsvView creator but he said that the code would require a significant rewrite to be able to provide that info in close to real time. Unfortunately had to give up. |
