The beauty of this DIY booster is no antenna mods required. You can install or remove the booster within seconds on Phantom 3 remote controller. It is cheap (cost almost nothing) and easier than any antenna mod without the hassles and risks of adding/replacing 2.4G antenna, pigtail cable and drilling holes on RC. It's widely used in RC hobby and Wi-Fi router for years.

Video shows how it works improving both RC and HD video signal

A modified PDF template for Phantom 3 antenna available for download https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6EvPgvmsFJlc1FXR2txV1hSeWs/view?usp=sharing

• Material required: card paper, aluminum foil

• Tools required: printer, scissors, utility knife, glue, double tape (I use double tape to stick aluminium foil onto card paper)

• DIY steps:
1. Print 2 copies of the PDF template from the above download link
2. Use common sense and follow the steps below
3. https://rchelimenace.wordpress.com/how-to-build-your-own-windsurfer-antenna/

What works better is stand in front of your car it will make a nice reflector if it's made out of metal no fiber.

It's really hard to believe that something that simple would make the P3P almost double in flight length. Can someone verify that this actually works?

I don't see why it would not .... You must pay particularly attentive to pointing  your antennas perpendicular to your  bird while it's farther  away  than usual as it isn't a dohnut shapped wave anymore. Not as much signal will be seeping to the sides or behind you with this DIY "adjustment"

This actually works for me!  I made a pair in an hour.  Increased my flight  distance from 2000 ft to over 5800 ft.  Easy to slip on/off.  Free.

Some one with a plotter should make these from copper sheet and 3d printed frames and sell them. I would buy one!!!1

This works like hell! Flew at least double the range (5K) not losing or weak signal once.

Thanks for the idea. I took it and I made them taller. Because the P3 antenns are so tall I wanted something that reflected the entire antenna.

I have not tested them out yet. I will be doing that today

Hi guys, I have very good news for everyone who owns a 3D printer: now you can print by yourself your "DJI Phantom 3 / Inspire 1 Range Booster" since I have published on Thingiverse.com a "ready to be printed" 3D model of a very performant and accurate parabolic antenna for your DJI drone:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:946565

Anyway, for everyone who don't have a 3D printer, I can sell them a printed and well finished Range Booster ready to use with aluminum coating already applied (19,00 € + shipping fees).
If you are interested, contact me at giuseppe.finizia@gmail.com.

Happy flying!

It is in a vertical format instead of horizontal, so I ll let u guys know when I receive it. Search for windsurfer p3 range booster. It's 3d printed and looked nice and neat, how it will work? I will let u know

Gonna try this aswell, i have a pretty good rance allreddy one time flow 3500 meters and still decent signal, battery 53 % and a warning to go back home, so if this works it must handle 5K ?
only problem than would be the limid of the battery, i,ll keep you informed !

Hi Gabe, adhesive aluminum foil is the best solution, trust me  ;-)

Not really.
With copper being twice as conductive as aluminum and 6 times more conductive than steel, it makes an excellent choice as an antenna material. The increased electrical efficiency means more of your RF energy will go up and out the antenna and not be trapped, creating heat energy.

On a pure energy efficiency standpoint, copper is the best material to choose for a base station or permanently mounted antenna. More of your signal will get into the air and less RF energy will be turned into heat by the internal resistance of the metal.Any energy you use to make heat is energy you aren't using to make electromagnetic waves.

Copper Foil Tape would be a pretty good solution for those who look for extended range.Something like this.

Cheers´

Hi, I use a ZORTRAX M200 3D Printer with high-quality Z-ABS filaments.
This 3D printer is one of the most accurate and uses special filaments that assure solid and durable prints. Moreover, every single 3D printed Range Booster is perfectly hand-finished assuring the best possible quality.

If you wish to order it, please let me know how many pieces you need and your postal address and I will calculate the shipment fees.
A single Range Booster costs 19,00 Euros but if you buy multiple items I could apply a special discount.
You can pay to my Paypal ID "giuseppe.finizia@gmail.com". Every Range Booster is usually ready for the shipment within 1 day from the payment.

Best regards.

Ordered one on Ebay, and did a first test yesterday.
I had to depress the RTH button once the bird reached 4.04km (more than 13250 feet, or 2.51mi) because the bird had to fly back upwind.
No a single signal drop, landed with 17% battery. Total flight distance 8471m - 27792 feet

I'm pretty sure it would have reached 5km without wind.

As far as copper vs. aluminum... The shield is needed for reflectivity, not conductivity.  So I would think both would work equally well.

People windsurfer antenna actually works! I saw him today, fabricated and tested , normally I can in good conditions when I'm high enough fly fetch about 3,500 meters, now I was at 4,200 meters without signal loss , the limiting factor is the battery now , at 55 % it indicates you have to go back , and that's true good, you need 50 % to achieve the maximum distance and another 50 % to come back safe with a safety margin of 5 %
So more can hardly , I flew with 7 meters per second, so maybe if you fly max speed you come up even further?

For everyone's information...here is a link to ebay that looks just like Giuseppe's except you can either keep them vertical or you can separate them at a 45' angle like the actual windsurfer idea:
