Hi team,
I have an old Mavic Air, generally, I am satisfied with the video quality (apart from front light - sunsets/sunrises), still images are also ok, I am fine with the distance (so OcuSync 2.0 in Mini 2 is not a game-changer) and with 3 battery I have never had issues with the flight time.

The question is - when you moved to Mini 2 - was there any noticeable difference in video/photo/footage quality, taking into account that the sensor size is similar?

And specific questions:
1) Sensor has the same size, but after 3 years, DJI is supposed to get much more from the same sensor - ?
2) Mini 2 has a better camera gimble but less weight - so as a result is Mini 2 footage more stable than on Mavic Air or weight factor appeared to be more important?
3) Mini 2 supposed to be slower than Mavic Air - very subjective - how critical it is?

Thanks!

Hello there ilya.golubinsky. Good day and thank you for posting these information. I will post a DJI link ( https://www.dji.com/mini-2?site=brandsite&from=nav ) where in you can check the specifications and frequently asked questions for the DJI Mini 2. In addition, I will also post a link where in you can compare both the DJI Mavic Air to the DJI Mini 2 and to other DJI consumer drones as well ( https://www.dji.com/products/com ... ndsite&from=nav ). Thank you.

Thanks, Stephen,
I am interested in personal/subjective opinions, as all specs are well known.. Based on specs video/photo should be the same, but I believe it not

One thing that frustrates me with the mini 2 is the gimbal move.   if you set the gimbal to -90 and move the drone the gimbal will raise up about 15 degrees,  it gets frustrating when taking zenith shots or landing.

Please disregard this post, I was wrong. Thankfully corrected by DAFlys...

That is because Air1 can tilt the gimbal past -90 degrees  (specs state -100) which means when you are pointing straight down and need to break, the gimbal still has a margin to compensate for the attitude of the craft.

Actually the spec is identical to the M2P which doesn't have that issue.   And it happens when making even very small gentle moves.

I personally think Mini 2 has the worst 1/2.3" sensor video output I have ever seen in my life. That statement being extremely subjective, there is an objective, irrefutable fact that nobody can deny: Mini 2 cannot compress video if there is too much to compress (a lot of spatial and/or temporal changes). Either it is underpowered for the task, or it has incompetent software; but at the end of the day, it can fail to produce an acceptable or even usable video under quite common, ordinary circumstances... And a big "NO", that is not normal just because "it is under 250gr"...

You are right, actually it has even more margin than the Air1. Don't know why, I remember it having less. Totally my bad,  I should have double checked.

In all honesty, writing in this forum is like wishing certain things to happen when you are watching a movie on Bluray/Netflix. Nothing you say will ever change anything; everything has already been set, done, decided. It does not matter at all what the hardware you had purchased is capable of.

They might make the next product they will sell to you better though...

Yeah,  youre probably right about that.

This is just my opinion. I am not a professional photographer/videographer. I have both the Mavic Air and Mini 2. To me the video/photo quality are better with the Mavic Air. The Mavic Air being heavier seems to make it more stable for long exposure shots and smoother video overall. The gimble works perfect with no jitters or stutter like I get from the Mini 2 when shooting straight down on the move. It's also easier for me to swap ND filters. Speed is not a big concern for me as I don't take photos/video at high speeds. I really don't notice much of a difference even though the specs say there is a considerable difference. Flight time is so so. I usually get about 15 min. with the Air and 26 min. with the Mini 2. Distance is not a big deal either. I can fly them both further than the battery will allow for a safe return. My main reason for getting the Mini 2 was backpacking. The Mavic Air with 3 batteries and a Smatree charger is a good bit a weight. 3,802 grams. The Mini 2, 3 batteries and charging hub comes in at 1,536 grams. I already carry a USB battery pack that can charge my batteries so I don't include that. I like them both and find that they each have their own niche. The obstacle avoidance and active track work pretty good on the Air and I have yet to crash it. I have crashed the Mini 2 twice now. The 1st crash being a total loss and had to be replaced. I find myself flying the Mini 2 more often because I always have it with me and it seems more fun to fly. If I am planning on getting some really good shots for editing like waterfalls, sunrise/sunset, or need to track something for a video, I use the Air. Just for fun and travel, I use the Mini 2.
