Ha, I don't blame you for staying indoors if it's that cold.

Sorry another couple of questions:

1. It is easy to remove the IR port . It was glued on the scotch tape.
2. No problem.

You need to hang the weight on the lens for balancing the axis of the PITCH

Hi Wolf,

Just got my Z15 and trying to fit everything in.

Got the roll balanced ok, but can't seem to get the tilt to balance out.

Can you tell me what you did? I've got the camera body as far forward as I can but its still back heavy.

Hi Wolf,

Just got my Z15 and trying to fit everything in.

Balancing the pitch axis:
I have used mastic Bostik  Blue Blu Tac and nuts to increase the weight of the lens

Also you can install ND or UV filter for weight in combination with mastic
I have got the perfect balancing

The shutter cable is very short and needs to be put in a different place. Did you make it longer so you can point it at the camera?

Hi, I suggest to add in the thread title "...and Sony A7S II"

Hi Wolfexe,

I've just been out and flown with not great results.

In video i'm getting small vibrations in the image. Not 100% sure why as my GH4 is fine so i don't think its coming from the copter.. Something for me to look into...

And this is very strange, but sat on the ground the shutter control works every time. Once up in the air it only fires once in every 10 attempts.

Fingers crossed yours is ok.

Hi Wolfexe,

I've just been out and flown with not great results.

1. Check the balancing gimbal
2. Where to place IR ? Try to close it from the sun (from the front).  If the camera is pointed straight, with auto focus mode is not the photographing. Only with manual focus.
3. On the street again cold, -28С, really want to fly.
4. Show video of the flight please.

Hi,

Here is a clip from the flight. its not the best at seeing the vibrations, but when the camera is still you can just see it better. Its in 4k so you can make it out better..

I was wondering if it may be due to SteadyShot being enabled?

AND yes i know the focus is soft - my fault!!

I've looked at the IR and it seems that light getting on the sensor is effecting it. If i block the light on it it fires ok. Just need to test in the air now when the wind stops.

The rubber dampers - soft black (kit with S900).
I think a little freeze dampers.  Additionally I will try to install Anti-drop kit to avoid side-shift

Sony A7S ii on Zenmuse Z15-A7, no problem

Hello Wolfexe. According to B&H dimension specs A7SII vs. A7S: they are different.
1-Did you do any modification to the Zenmuse? (else calibration)
2-Everything fits ok? Shutter? Hdmi? etc
3-Is The Footage perfectly smooth with the gimbal/camera combo?
4-What lens did you use?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

HI,
1. To read post 41.  You need to move the IR sensor. Additionally need a microhdmi adapter and microhdmi cable. The adapter is needed to connect two micro HDMI wire, because the gimbal mini HDMI cable is short (the micro HDMI port on Sony A7S II turned to the other side).
2. Yes.
3. Yes, as with A7S

Also I can only get it to shoot a still frame while it is pointing straight ahead in manual or release priority mode. Point the gimbal down a bit and the shutter fires.

Yes, I am having the exact same issue!
The REC function works in any position, but the PHOTO doesn't work when the camera is oriented to the front, only downwards.
I looked with another camera at the IR sensor and it works in any position, so the problem comes from the camera.

There must be a setting or something that's not ok, but I cannot figure out which one... Can anyone help?

I had issues with the shutter on my A7Rii. It would seem like the daylight/ sunlight is effecting the IR.

How is the quality of your video?

Do you have any jello or vibration?

I have a very small amount and can't seem to get rid of it. The odd thing is its fine with my GH4 + Z15.

Yep, the problem with the shutter that goes on only when the camera faces down was because of light kept interfering with the IR.
You do need to protect the IR from light.

You have the exact same problem as me with my A7rii.

Its either the gimbal can't take the extra weight or the camera is too sensitive.

I just installed my A7S (mk1) and the picture was perfect.

Wolfe, I have been reading this link for a  while, and I would like to thank you and everyone else for your contributions. Any progress of late?

I have a bunch of related questions:

Is the Sony A7Rii a viable camera for aerials?  Why has none of the companies I have checked out made a gimbal for it?  Is there something inherently impractical for it to function in this role, or am I just being impatient? Or is the best method just to adapt another gimbal?

I am trying to put together as good of a rig for doing photography, particularly stills.  I have taught photography and art for 34 years, have recently finally "graduated" from teaching.  Have had a P3P for about 6 months, have made some good images and a lot of fun, but am dissatisfied with the print quality.  Shoot RAW, and process HDR images for anything I care about, and they are ok, but once you start printing over 10 x 14 or so, the image suffers.
I purchased a A7Rii for the Zenmuse gimbal, without reading the fine print about it not fitting the mk ii.  I am thrilled with the image quality from the camera, and just want to get it up in the air to take images.
I have looked at the s1000, the s900, and the Tarot X6.

Sorry for all the questions, here is an image from the P3P...

Hope that worked
